  • Was one of the most beautiful churches in the charming district of the outside Trastevere.Dommage in renovation, impossible to even the façade, but inside is worth a visit. As always must be covered to go home. The night world and tourists on the square next! I recommend!

  • Santa Maria in Trastevere is a superb basilica and is well worth a visit for its very fine mosaics and for a sense of peace there. It is one of the oldest and most famous in Trastevere ans supposed to...  more »
  • From outside not so impressive and interesting, man is slain upon entering the Basilica of impressions. The vaulted ceilings and the decorations on the walls are very impressive. Sarcophagi recessed into walls and a huge shrine can be one to freeze the blood. A large statue of Jesus on the cross, which is behind a device that looks very true to life. The oldest icons are also exhibited 12thcentury should arguably be the oldest church in Rome. Many restaurants and cafés all around and interesting small streets to the stroll

  • A nice place to sit in the evening while sipping a beer, there seems to often be some sort of music/comedic entertainment on the piazza which you can enjoy
  • Trastevere is a beautiful district. Find small streets and you are suddenly alone and away from all the noise and all the other tourists. Ponte Sisto is a good way into the area. Try small walks in all directions from this square with the big fountain (where many bridesmaids come to be photographed).
  • Relaxed and scenic
  • Great fountain and a nice place to relax and enjoy the activities (July)

Where to stay in Rome

For easy foot access to most of the city's main historical sites, consider staying in Rome's old town center. The area is conveniently placed for public transport, only a walk away from the city's main railway station. Accommodations here span all hotels sectors, from cheap hostels to luxury brand names. To avoid the steep prices and overcrowding of the town center, explore the hotels in the inner suburbs of Rome. They offer comfortable rooms and excellent food at a fraction of the price charged by the centrally located hotel chains. Another affordable option is the area around Vatican, which boasts a good selection of family-owned B&Bs.
