Santa Barbara dei Librai is a small Roman Catholic church in Rome, Italy. It was once known as Santa Barbara alla Regola after the rione in which it was located. Today it now considered within the rione of Parione, near the Campo de' Fiori.HistoryGiuseppe Vasi dates the consecration of the church by 1306, although it is probable that a church existed at the site since the 10-11th century. Inscriptions inside claim that the church was established by Giovanni di Crescenzio de Roizo and his wife Rogata, who was a senator of Rome in the second century. In 1600, it was granted to the confraternity of the Bookmakers (bookbinders, publishers, and scribes) or Librari, who titled the church after St Thomas Acquinas and St John of God as patrons.During the papacy of Innocent XI, the church was restored. In 1634, after a fire, the confraternity of book makers bought out adjacent properties. The baroque façade was remade by Giuseppe Passeri. The statue of St Barbara over the door was sculpted by Ambrogio Parisi, and the angel painted on a wall is attributed to Guido Reni. The church has paintings by Luigi Garzi; a fresco of St Saba by Giovanni Battista Brughi, pupil of Baciccio, in the chapel of Specchi; and frescoes by Francesco Ragusa and Domenico Monacelli.Put Santa Barbara dei Librari at the forefront of your travel plans using our Rome sightseeing planning website .

The Church of Santa Barbara dei Librai is located in Rome, near Campo de ' Fiori and is located in Largo dei Librari, situated along Via dei Giubbonari, a trapezoid-shaped and delicious with a slight slope that makes very scenic the perspective effect of façade of this small sacred building. In fact, the picturesque website, surrounded by ancient buildings and dominated by the impressive statue of the Saint to whom the Church is dedicated, it seems the decorative part of a theatrical set design. This small church, with a Greek cross plan, has some wonderful interiors, all painted and adorned with white stucco. Beautiful fresco paintings that decorate the vaults of the ceiling, including is very nice the fresco that celebrates the glory of Santa Barbara. Striking the painting above the altar, depicting Santa Barbara in adoration of the risen Christ, touching the precious wooden crucifix of fourteenth century, charming the old seventeenth-century organ and exciting the 15th century triptych representing the Madonna and child between the Archangel Michael and Saint John the Baptist. In addition, also houses a historic crib that annually is placed on display on 4 December, in honor of the feast of Santa Barbara.View original -

I'm back, for some time absent from Rome, to "librari dar filettaro". Remember those nice steaming and crispy Baked cod fillets in the three cauldrons. Well, the cauldrons are always there that sizzle. FRY only because there is very little batter cod. What a disappointment! And puntarelle with anchovy sauce? The good of chicory is a beautiful and rich sauce of anchovies, but to no avail, only a paltry sprinkling of chopped anchovies, no sauce. Other disappointment. Nothing to say for "butter and anchovies", at least those. The Bill is salty.View original -

The Church has its charm where it is a bit on the small ' free square. The façade drew my attention and led me into the beautiful church. Here there are some beautiful takfresker by Luigi Garzi. Cross-ship's walls have four decorated frescos by Luigi Garzi. Beautiful decorated Church and I can really recommend a visit here!View original

In 2015, the church was advertised as being open 9:00 to 12:00 and 16:00 to 18:00, but the "Comunità di Santa Barbara" which runs it does not seem to have any online presence for this to be checked. This charming and interesting little 17th century confraternity church is set well back from the street at the end of a narrow piazza. This is because it started out about a thousand years ago as a chamber under the audience stands of the ancient Theatre of Pompey. The Baroque interior decoration is lush. Sunday Mass was at 19:00 in recent years.

Bookstores Church. Little romantic church. Yesterday we saw a wedding in the church. The bridal couple and follow were subsequently picked up in 4 horse trolleys at Campo dei Fiori.
