  • "When we got married in the early 1900s," my grandmother recounted, "because we were young and penniless, we went to live in what was then on the outskirts, outside People's Square. Around here there were only swamps, reedbeds, pastures, and if the Tiber flooded we didn't know how to defend ourselves from mosquitoes and malaria. Our house was on the top floor of one of the few buildings already built because we could not afford the main floor. It is incredible to think of this today that Prati is perhaps the most coveted ward in Rome, benefiting from being on the edge of the old town with its streets full of tourists, restaurants, wine bars, trendy shops (and the almost impossible to park), provided with all the services and where the Palace of Justice, Churches, Tribunals, Barracks, important private universities and alongside the beautiful Mole Adriana and Castel Sant'Angelo are located. And in the beautiful building where my grandparents lived, and where I spent childhood and youth, there is a very popular bookstore while on the landing, where my parents still live, resides a famous director. The Prati ward was designed shortly after the Porta Pia Breach in 1870 but grew slowly due to the difficulty of construction on the marshland, and even when it was inserted into the master plan 10 years later, it continued for years to lack connections serious, including the bridges, that joined it in the center. Its fate was linked in the first decade of the 20th to the chaotic growth of Rome, which, having become capital, required the transfer there of all the political and administrative institutions of the country. The acceleration to the development of the city gave her the appointment of mayor of Ernesto Nathan in 1907 who, Anglo-Italian, cosmopolitan, republican, Freemason and anti-clerical , with its secular culture and Mazzianiana influenced a lot on the Regulatory Plan set on buildings that were not to exceed 24 meters, cottages, vast green areas and especially on the progressive cancellation by the umbertine Rome of papal Rome that curled up around the Vatican and St. Peter's. Even the road town planning was studied in such a way that none of the new streets of Prati had in the background the dome of St. Peter and even the names of the streets were carefully chosen among the characters of the story, the Latin classics and the heroes of the Resurgence and the main road of Prati in the direction of the papal state was dedicated to Cola di Rienzo who in 1300 had tried to create the republic in Rome in defiance of papal power...

  • Beautiful district of Rome, a short walk from the Vatican and castel Sant' angel. The evening is very quiet, safe and comes with different comforts. The metro stop is right there, as well as there are so many clothing stores, bars, ovens, restaurants. I mean, you find a little bit of everything. To stay in Rome a few days I recommend it. The location is great to be able to move at your best, enjoying the beauties of the city

  • Fantastic welcome and maximum availability from owner Federico. The spaces inside the house are very comfortable, and can safely accommodate six people. The kitchen is comfortable for 4 people. The bathroom in my opinion should be renovated, despite the marble cladding is really charming.
