  • I came here with my fellow Swedish course at the University on December 13, when the Embassy of Sweden had organized the traditional court of Santa Lucia in this beautiful square in Rome. It's a very important holiday in Sweden, which paradoxically here is not celebrated with equal enthusiasm. But the Embassy organizes every year something for the occasion in this square, inviting artists willing to make the journey from Sweden to be able to exhibit a few nights in the country where the Saint was born and where she had been martyred. The Piazza di Pietra offers a beautiful environment, full of light and warm smiles, where the ancient columns are joined to the voices of the city. According to the Swedish Christmas tradition, we were treated to delicious glögg with almonds and raisins, accompanied by numerous pepparkakor biscuits. Shortly thereafter, was pronounced a few words of introduction. And then began the magic of the procession. The traditional figures of San Lucia, of Tärnor and of Stjärngossar approached slowly, singing and filling the square with their melodious voices. They were all boys and girls of a singing school in Stockholm and two splendid hours they kept everyone in suspense in the enchantment of those melodies. The Moon shone with gentle determination, making it all the more surreal. It was the first time I came to Piazza di Pietra for this wonderful event, but I'm sure that next year I will certainly return. It was one of the best moments I've ever experienced, immersed in the enchantment of darkness and magic of light.

  • On this site you can admire the remains of the Temple of Hadrian. Finally, it remains for much, 11 columns that stand here proudly for centuries.

  • On this site it says some huge pillars/columns are after a temple that was erected to the emperor Hadrian, built in 144 e.Kr. of his successor Antoninus Pius. The columns are huge and you can imagine what a job it was to get them transported and erected here. Amazing!
