(3.5/5 based on 650+ reviews on the web)
Watch the cars zip around the Fountain of the Naiads in the center of Piazza della Repubblica, which serves as a large traffic roundabout. The plaza is surrounded by 19th-century porticos and the basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri, and is lit up at night. The large plaza was built over the baths of Diocletian, which give the space its shape. • Found this piazza after leaving the Termini station on the way to somewhere else. The fountain was partly covered on our visit. Not sure why. Nice enough piazza but very busy with traffic.
  • The large area in the center of Rome was erected on the site of the ancient buildings. Earlier, in the first millennium of our era on the site area were very popular among Romans baths of Diocletian-bathhouse complex, incorporating both cold and hot baths, sport gymnasiums, library and gardens of great beauty. Unfortunately, these constructions exist for relatively short-two centuries, were destroyed at sunset of the Western Roman Empire in 500 years. Shattered baths not pleasing to the eye of the Romans for a thousand years until the city government decision to restore a portion destroyed. So there was a temple and the area in front of it. Later commissioned by Pope PIO 9 square was decorated with a fountain, and even after half a century it appeared with semicircular colonnades. Just for the sake of Naiad fountain area worth visiting. It is recognized as one of the most beautiful in the city and has not always been so. The fountain was erected on the site of the old and unattractive predecessor back in 1870 year commissioned by Pope PIO 9. Each pokoritel'nicy water elements your "pet", with which the NAIADES imprinted in the sculptures. So, Lake naiad hurtling at Cygnus, landlady of the oceans on marine sits Ridge, River naiad captured along with Monster River and follows underground stream has a dragon. Posted in three corners and in the middle of the NAIADES daily beset by water streams, erupting with Fontana. compulsory place visit in Rome
