Piazza della Bocca della Verita houses one of Rome’s most popular curiosities, which rests inside the portico of the beautiful medieval church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin. The Bocca della Verità is the carved marble image of a man’s face and open mouth, which perhaps dates from the first century. According to legend, those who tell a lie while placing their hands inside the mouth will have them bitten off. Inside the square you'll also spot the Arcus Argentariorum, the Arch of Janus, the Temple of Hercules Victor, and the Temple of Portunus. • I've been in this place in September 2016. This mouth is at the entrance of a very old church whose roof and like the Sistine Chapel of the Vatican, this church was built on top of a pagan Church. Worth knowing.

  • Street car at the mouth of truth to people coming and going in the quite a crowd from 10 meters at some distance away, relieved breath is put on. The white of the ground are imprinted on the eyes. It is a good place to taste the ancient Rome, and in front of the Temple of Vesta, and the Temple of Fortuna.
