Piazza del Campidoglio, Rome

(4.7/5 based on 900+ reviews on the web)
Piazza del Campidoglio is an example of the grandeur of Italian design--as well as Michelangelo's genius at solving problems with impossible spaces. The piazza's trapezoidal shape prevented the buildings from facing each other squarely. Also, one side of the trapezoid sloped, making the ground uneven. Michelangelo addressed the slope with a ramped staircase and low steps at various intervals that rise and fall according to the incline. The piazza appears to be oval, but it is actually egg-shaped to compensate for the troublesome trapezoid. • The Capitol Square is actually not as the highlight, however, is around the corner a circular route with fantastic views over the city.

  • If one wants in the Musei Capitolini, not around it - to get to this place and it's worth keep also. For one the famous statue known 50 ct units produced by the Italian and then the beautiful buildings including the Basilica di Santa Maria in Aracoeli. Walking the stairs is exhausting, but you get the feeling, what it means to build a city on hills then even a little.

  • Simply climb the stairs (comfortably) from via del Teatro di Marcello brings up, look at the view and realizing the uniqueness of this square. Look for 2/3 turns to unique beauties of Rome and for 1/3 embraces the very ancient history of Rome. Don't give up because they still see the copy of the statue of liberty 4 by a sense of precariousness modern compared to the magnificent and imperishable works of the past.
