  • This important minor Basilica dedicated to the twelve apostles, whose statues dominate on the balustrade of the porch in front of the neoclassical facade of Valadier, is a Baroque masterpiece grafted into the large body of Palazzo dei Principi column. Within a large and solemn nave embellished with marbles and stucco and gilding impresses with a high ceiling on which you can admire the great fresco Baciccia which enhances the triumph of the Franciscan order at which care is entrusted to the Church for centuries. The apse the rich Baroque decoration is enhanced by a huge canvas that recalls the Saints Apostles Philip and James, whose gilded busts adorn with lanterns and candelabra Baroque altar in polychrome marbles and whose burials are solemnly placed in the underlying crypt, accessible through a double elliptical staircase in marble, which extends past the marble balustrade. Very nice even some paintings in the side chapels like the Immaculate Giaquinto, or burial of a Franciscan Pope built in Candide marble from Antonio Canova, or remains of frescoes by Antoniazzo Romano in a small chapel behind the altar of St Joseph in the right transept.

  • Lovely sedated church from the outside with the statues of the 12 Apostles. Would have loved to have seen the inside.
  • What a gem! This church has a crypt which is accessible and it contains the tomb of the Apostles St. Phillip and St. James. Beautiful church.
  • Hidden treasure in Rome! Be sure to visit the crypt.
  • Beat things to see here include Michelangelo's Moses and the chains that held St. Peter. The church is amazing inside as are all the churches in Rome. Absolutey breathe taking
  • Definitely amazing but known as the backdrop for many
