  • Palazzo Colonna is open only on Saturday morning: If you happen to Rome that half day, make sure you include it in your tour. Visit the huge Gallery, partly housed in the dazzling gallery that was from model to Versailles, the rooms of Princess Isabelle and the lush garden is a memorable experience. Not only will you be able to finally enjoy the famous Beaneater by Annibale Carracci, but also let you seduced by the intriguing biography of Marie Mancini, niece of Cardinal Mazarin, Louis XIV's first love and married Onofrio Colonna. Fantastic, in every sense, four squares of night by Jan Brueghel with subject separate frogs caught in moments of exaltation. Prepared, beautiful and funny tour guides but, please: they know the principles column that, after you pay for a ticket from 30 euros and, especially, after 1789, concepts such as "you're not visitors but welcome" and "the principles are so magnanimous that grant well as to ordinary mortals to enjoy so much beauty ", seem a wee bit out of date ...

  • Wonderful Palace with a charming history, the garden is also a pleasure to see and some artistics masterpieces are available inside. The visit was not long but it was amazing: a beautiful guided tour in a little group with a skilled and sympathetic guide. It's quite a magic place that behold between its walls a part of the history of the richest and most powerful family of Papal Rome.
  • Elegant and charming, though not as much as other more famous

Where to stay in Rome

For easy foot access to most of the city's main historical sites, consider staying in Rome's old town center. The area is conveniently placed for public transport, only a walk away from the city's main railway station. Accommodations here span all hotels sectors, from cheap hostels to luxury brand names. To avoid the steep prices and overcrowding of the town center, explore the hotels in the inner suburbs of Rome. They offer comfortable rooms and excellent food at a fraction of the price charged by the centrally located hotel chains. Another affordable option is the area around Vatican, which boasts a good selection of family-owned B&Bs.
