  • The Obelisk of Minerva is one of thirteen ancient obelisks of Rome. It was placed in the piazza della Minerva (where there is also the famous basilica of Santa Maria sopra Minerva). The Obelisk was made transport to Rome, together with other obelisks, by Emperor Domitian as spoils of war, and was from the city Heliopolis in Egypt. The Obelisk was finally arranged by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, who positioned on an elephant's back. The monument is commonly also known as the "Pulcin della Minerva" where Chick, in the dialect of the era was about to mushroom, with reference to the elephant "because of its size and round shapes echoing a pig".

  • This fusion of an ancient (4th century Obelisk. BC) and an elephant made by Bernini I like, although the merger may be controversial. The perfect representation and expression of the elegant color to Bernini's ability not to trivialize this sculptural fusion made him the most famous obelisk in the capital. The Obelisk is located in Piazza Santa Maria della Minerva in front of the Church of the same name.

  • One of the 13 ancient obelisks of Rome, located in the piazza della Minerva. It was arranged by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, who set up on an elephant's back. The model was offered by a baby elephant born in homage to the City by Queen Christina of Sweden converted to Catholicism, but follows an iconography derived from Hypnerotomachia Poliphili

  • Very weird and very funny :) i don't really know how to describe this place. You can seat next to it to watch it and try to understand. We didn't succeeded but you can try!
  • This is a fantastic specimen of Egyptian architecture. It depicts an obelisk on top of an elephant.
  • Had a great view of this pretty statue from the window of my suite. A great thing to wake up to each morning.
  • A fantastic land mark set in a beautiful square. Well worth seeing!
  • It's a fun little Bernini sculpture with found-object obelisk assemblage. Kind of surrealist for the 17th century, in my opinion. It's fanciful and very photogenic.
