Mercati di Traiano. Museo dei Fori Imperiali, Rome

4.3
#9 of 99 in Museums in Rome
Mercati di Traiano. Museo dei Fori Imperiali houses more than 40,000 pieces of ancient architecture from the Roman Empire's Forum district. Ongoing research projects at the museum painstakingly attempt to recreate the original structures. Specialists replace missing fragments with plaster molding and add original colors, so you can view the pieces as they looked in the Roman Empire's heyday. All five complexes, or Imperial Forums, were built chronologically over 159 years. Each represents a different period of the empire, beginning with Caesar. Consider purchasing the Roma Pass before your visit. This card provides discounted entrance into a number of prominent sites in Rome, and the first two attractions will be free. Mercati di Traiano. Museo dei Fori Imperiali is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, Rome Edition.

  • For me, this mall from the 2nd century ad is the most impressive I've seen. It was designed by Apollodorus of Damascus, the architect of Trajan (the first Hispanic Emperor) you can see holes occupied by tents and halls that gave them access. No doubt, in his time, and together with the adjacent Forum had to leave the mouth open more than one.

  • Missed in Rome last come and I went this time. I gave up only after all the views from outside, there are entrance, was weary in hot. Street construction roped-off tape and peeked from the front, is a shame. Walking on our photos and pictures and in the exhibit include? It was closed because it was the best time to explore, but didn't see a shadow, maybe? I'd like to go make sure next time.

  • Selfishly speaking, fortunately is an archaeological site in the little known by the masses of tourists, every corner you can enjoy in all tranquillity, in some respects, you can still feel the public administrative and everyday life of Imperial Rome.

  • At the entrance very uncommunicative woman, rude and unwilling to help.
  • Strikingly beautiful, with comprehensive information boards and a terrace overlooking the breathtaking holes

Where to stay in Rome

For easy foot access to most of the city's main historical sites, consider staying in Rome's old town center. The area is conveniently placed for public transport, only a walk away from the city's main railway station. Accommodations here span all hotels sectors, from cheap hostels to luxury brand names. To avoid the steep prices and overcrowding of the town center, explore the hotels in the inner suburbs of Rome. They offer comfortable rooms and excellent food at a fraction of the price charged by the centrally located hotel chains. Another affordable option is the area around Vatican, which boasts a good selection of family-owned B&Bs.
