  • With the ticket of the catacombs (8 euros) you are entitled to access to the adjacent museum, not very large, partly not accessible and with many works in copy. but this allows you to enter the newly reopened mausoleum of Saint Helena, mother of constantine, and admire it in its entirety, which also means ruined by a modern construction built inside. the catacombs proper are among the largest of Rome, 17 km of which you visit about one, although at a speed that prevents you from fully appreciating them in their beauty, it is in fact the complex perhaps best frescoed. it is indicative that in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th centuries the cross was not used in the cemetery, nor the evangelical scene of the resurrection, and it was preferred veterinary motifs, pagans such as "refreshment" and the seasons, or symbols such as the good shepherd. the Christian community that was buried here probably still had rather vague ideas of their faith. there are, however, inscriptions (Latin) to comics older than those of San Clemente.

  • The visit to the catacombs is accompanied by a very well made explanation, in our case we were accompanied by a girl not only well prepared me who explained, rare thing, with great terms and details, then an absolute added value to the visit.

  • They were excavated at today's Via Casilina, between the 3rd and 5th centuries AD, the Catacombs of the SS. Marcellin and Peter to accommodate Christians who had the greatest financial resources. This is evidenced by a whole series of fantastic frescoes, still very well defined and colorful thanks to a modern laser technique. It is certainly one of the most beautiful catacombs in Rome with a size of 18 thousand square meters and a depth of about 16 meters. Visiting shifts are at 10, 11, 15 and 16 except the closing month of August. The tours are all guided with Mp3 in Italian, French, English, German and Spanish with prices of only 8 euros, and can be booked via the internet on the same site as the catacombs.

  • Must watch. Stunning.
  • At The moment it is not yet open to the public; From what I have been told should be accessible from the early months of 2019. The Mausoleum was born as a burial place of Constantine; But because of the sudden death of his mother, in 328 A.D. The complex and also the sarcophagus of red granite that we can admire at the Vatican Museums will be surrendered. A Few little curiosities: To the left of the mausoleum, observing the church inside, there is a small wall; It will be up just under 1 metre; This is what remains of the Costantinian basilica that was part of the complex. The name Torpignattara derives from the fact that in the Middle Ages the mausoleum had been elevated with a tower and because of a collapse some parts had collapsed; Leaving exposed a series of "Pignatte" that were used to reduce the building material and to attach, but without prejudice, the resistance of the whole structure. These whistled are still visible on the top of the mausoleum.

  • In the peripheral area called Tor Pignattara which is this ruin of which you can perceive the presence of "pignatte" i.e. terracotta pots that lighten the weight in the construction of the dome that over the centuries has been destroyed

  • The main attraction of Villa De Sanctis Park. It Is certainly a great pleasure to be able to train at Villa De Sanctis Park and at the same time to admire the great Mausoleum of Sant'Elena. Inside there is a small church with the catacombs of Saints Marcelino and Pietro.
