The only way for us to become great, or even inimitable if possible, is to imitate the Greeks. Johann Winckelmann 1755

The GrandTour was a long journey in continental Europe made by the rich young European aristocrats in the seventeenth century and designed to improve their knowledge with start and finish in the same city. This trip could last from a few months to several years. The final destination was commonly Italy, or more rarely Greece.

During the tour, the young people learned about politics, culture, art and antiquities of European countries. They spent their time doing sightseeing, studying and doing acquisti.L 'Italy, with its legacy of ancient Rome, with its monuments became one of the most popular places to visit. In addition to knowledge of the ancient world, the British were thus in contact with the works of Palladio and Neoclassicism.During the journey, the young people could buy, according to their means and possibilities, many works of art and antiques and visit the ruins of Rome, but also of Pompeii and Herculaneum were rediscovered recently. At the same time, even art students from all parts of Europe came to Italy to learn from ancient models.

During the nineteenth century, most of the educated youth made the Grand Tour Later, it became fashionable for young women. A trip to Italy with her maiden aunt as chaperon was part of the formation of the upper-class lady. Grand Tour expression, seems to have made its appearance on the guide An Italian Voyage of Richard Lassels, published in 1698. The success of the book by Thomas Coryat Coryat's Crudities is often regarded as the beginning of the craze for the Grand TourJohann Wolfgang von Goethe operated its Grand Tour of Italy from 1786 to 1788 of which he wrote in his famous travelogue Journey to Italy.

  • The journey has just begun…… Our atelier, where we create and handcraft Grandtour, is located on Via dei Coronari in Rome, at only 100 meters from Piazza Navona. Our front window is surrounded by a large jasmine plant and we look out into a stunning fountain dating back to 1500, which is located at the center of a small square called piazza San Simeone. The building where our atelier is located goes back to 1500, named palazzo Salimei, it was purchased by Pope Sisto V in 1585. A floor of white wood adorns the entrance to the gallery which houses antique furniture and paintings of various eras from past to present. The display cases, which exhibit our collection to the public are reflected in a large ornamental mirror, framed by carved wood, golden in color and dominant at the rear of our premises . Although there may be limited space to circulate, our premises are characterized by a very enticing and inviting atmosphere . Our clients can admire all the art while waiting to begin their own Grandtour. We have always taken the time to interact and talk with people who wander in, about the beauty that Rome has given us with its many years of history, and how it has provided us with emotions which, no matter how many times relived, are always as fresh as the first time we made our discoveries. Over time we began to think that we could immortalize these moments by creating of them wearable objects. Grandtour thus was born as a sort of reminder of the journey, of the moment, as we remember moments when looking at a photograph. Just a few steps away from us there are many small characteristically Roman trattorie which hurriedly prepare their tables and remind passersby that it is almost time to indulge in some special refreshments. We have often spent time with our clients, sharing an aperitif or a lunch together while the colors of the sunset have served to light up the facades of the ancient buildings around us, providing us with a magnificent backdrop as only this eternal city can. Thanks to your much appreciated visits, we are delighted to share this great fortune. Buon Viaggio……. (have a good trip)
  • Great Value for Money . Kind, qualified and very helpful staff. They helped me a lot the first time to choose the color of the subject that I fell in love with immediately, Minerva which for me represents one of my great passions. I came back to them several times to buy other jewelry also to give because I can choose a jewel designed just for my loved ones.
