From the past, however, we have inherited a number of testimonies, some of which we have no memory, while others of incredible value. The Gasometer is certainly not the Eiffel Tower or the pyramid of Cheops, but it is a centuries-old legacy that, reminds us of the city of markets and industry, labor and plants that served to produce and develop the economy. To the younger ones it says nothing, indeed, it seems that it is there only to annoy or clutter the space. In fact, it was conceived with the purpose of storing the gas that the city of Rome needed for domestic use and public lighting. With the progress and spread of methane, structures like this have suddenly become obsolete, a testament to industrial archaeology and work history. For those born and lived here in the Ostiense area, it is a not at all negligible reference to which we are very fond.

It represents an important element of the skyline of South Rome, especially symbol of the neighborhood Ostiense / Testaccio. In some rare circumstances it is illuminated it is not possible to visit it very closely because inside the headquarters of Italgas.

An imposing iron structure, with adjacent cranes on the Tiber and very high heights. You can't get inside the gazometer, but you can stroll along the long road adjacent to the river. Relaxation and silence characterize the place. Good for walks and bikes, every now and then I see people with skateboards. It's like going back 100 years.
This is one of the most famous sights in Rome and a must see for tourists. In fact I always advise visitors and honourable guests to visit the Gazometro instead of overrated landmarks like the Vatican City as it's much more moving and doesn't have any where near such a dubious history! Long live the Gazometro and the beauty and greatness it brings to the city of Rome.
Astonishing industrial style colosseum like construction, which peacefully integrates in the neighborhood. A must see for everyone visiting rome.
The quintessential backdrop of a certain kind of Roman movie. It's not much to see up close, probably better seen from the other side of the Tevere.
Yeah, this place is nice and full of gypsies ! Be careful, not joking.
What an unusual place! I loved to picnic here as something out of a modernist film, perhaps.
