Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna, Rome

4.2
#13 of 150 in Museums in Rome
Somewhat overshadowed by the nearby Borghese Gallery, though full of interesting art, Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna houses artwork from the last 200 years. Comprised of 75 rooms, it holds the largest collection of Italian art from the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as work from many famous artists from around the world, such as Monet, Picasso, Van Gogh, and Pollock. Modern and contemporary art blend here in a creatively presented format. After your visit to the museum, rest your feet in the statue-filled garden outside. With our custom trip planner, Rome attractions like Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • After a lovely walk through the Gardens of Villa Borghese, we came out to this on the other side and what a surprise! Couldn't believe just how many famous artists are in this gallery! Modern alongsid...  more »
  • Unnecessary to make the list of the artists in the Museum: we are pretty much all one, two, more works by each. An incredible heritage. The current exhibition "surpasses the dimension of time and styles" and features large and bright rooms (I will never stop stressing the importance of these aspects in a museum or an exhibition), an exhibition based on similarities, cross references, contrasts, affinity. After the first stage that leaves a little perplexed, and grasped this concept, your visit pleasant and light flowing (though long for the sheer size and number of works). Entrance 10 euros.

  • Balla, Boccioni, Boldini, Capogrossi, Burri, Carrà, De Chirico, Dalton, Degas, Fountain, Giacometti, Klein, Klimt, Modigliani and Morandi, and again and again and again, Medardo Rosso, Paladin, and again, Van Gogh, and again. Modern art vera, the substance, the genius. In a unique space (look at the row of rooms that ends with Mimmo Paladino, only awesome for absolute beauty), works of the nineteenth century (a crucified woman, modernity, power and rare impact, year 1890, more than crucify a frog) not the emptiness of certain American pop art (marketing of vain?). Best of Modern Tate Modern Tokyo and Paris at the Palace. Gallery unfairly unfrequented which should be a showpiece to advertise and publicize to help understand that Italy did not stop in 700, is not only ancient Rome but was art until quite some time ago. WONDERFUL

  • Very nice gallery with many interesting aspects in it. There is loads to look at and most of it is very interesting. Famous paintings and a very good layout. 5e per person if you're younger than 25 or for some other reasons but im not too sure what they are. Very nice way to spend your day
  • We really enjoyed the new layout of the museum spaces. Kudos to the curator for creating a very visually and intellectually stimulating experience. The only reccomendation - seating in the various galleries to allow people, especially older people or those with mobility issues, the chance to sit and contemplate the works while resting. The restaurant area is lovely, too, but the food quality should be better, especially considering the prices. If those two issues were resolved, this would definitely be a five star experience!
  • Very large so make sure you dedicate a good chunk of time to this gallery. Must-see if a fan of modern art.
  • Wonderful gallery with a nice mix of modern, contemporary and historical artworks. Great atmosphere, and a fantastic cafe. Do not miss the sunday buffet!
  • The GNAM is always a great place to visit, both the permanent and the temporary exhibitions. The museum is fully wheelchair accessible thanks to an oldish looking but functioning lift, as is the restaurant/cafeteria.
