Trajan's Forum was the last of the Imperial fora to be constructed in ancient Rome. The architect Apollodorus of Damascus oversaw its construction.HistoryThis forum was built on the order of the emperor Trajan with the spoils of war from the conquest of Dacia, which ended in 106. The Fasti Ostienses state that the Forum was inaugurated in 112, while Trajan's Column was erected and then inaugurated in 113.To build this monumental complex, extensive excavations were required: workers eliminated the sides of the Quirinal and Capitoline (Campidoglio) Hills, which closed the valley occupied by the Imperial forums toward the Campus Martius. It is possible that the excavations were initiated under Emperor Domitian, while the project of the Forum was completely attributed to the architect Apollodorus of Damascus, who also accompanied Emperor Trajan in the Dacian campaign.During the time of the construction, several other projects took place: the construction of the Markets of Trajan, and the renovation of the Caesar's Forum (where the Basilica Argentaria was built) and the Temple of Venus Genetrix.

  • The Forum of Trajan, built ~112 A.D., was the last of the Imperial Forums built in Rome. It was constructed by Emperor Trajan, whose full name was Marcus Ulpius Traianus. The Imperial Fora are a serie...  more »
  • It was at its most splendid, the second century, the largest forum of Rome but today remains of that complex. It is best seen from Via dei Fori Imperiali and, in particular, excels at night

  • From this forum built in the first century there are quite quite a few well preserved ruins that you can appreciate, at night it is spectacular with lights, it is in front of what was the Roman forum on the route of the imperial forum.

  • This is a place among many in Rome Where You Are surrounded with historic buildings and ruins from many time periods. There are other more historic and iconic things to see in Rome if you are here for a short visit. But if you are here for a week this is worth taking the time to visit.
  • What could I write if it is so spectacular. I would love it more with less tourists... they would too without me and others. Life...
  • A bit boring if you're not into history. There's a lot of walking to do if you want to explore the whole forum and the gardens. Probably best to get a guide if you want to learn about the deep history of the forum and the palatine hill.
  • You can see everything from the streets, as a singular place it's OK, but it is the last part of the Palatino and Roman Forum visit, and as a whole it is worth it
  • Nice place, you can visit all three together, Colosseum, Pallatines Hill & Roman Forum, walk towards the end you will see Altar of Fatherland lands, and from there, Pantheon and Trevi Fountain is 15mins walking.
