The Fontana del Nettuno is a monumental fountain located in the Piazza del Popolo in Rome. It was constructed in the 1822-23 at the terminus of a newly built aqueduct, the Acqua Vergine Nuovo. The fountains in the Piazza del Popolo were the work of Giovanni Ceccarini. The Fontana del Nettuno is located on the west side of the square, and shows Neptune with his Trident, accompanied by two Tritons.

  • This fountain of Neptune fighting an octopus surrounded by sea nymphs is a joy to behold. The item that struck me was its horses with eyes very similar to the eyes of the horses at the Trevi Fountain....  read more »
  • Piazza del Popolo is full of beautiful things to see, and Rome is full of fountains, and probably for this combination of factors this fountain is little known and underappreciated.

  • Cool that you can see in Rome such a stunning place like Pbâcca del Popolo and works of art such as the Neptune fountain. Ancient gods, beauty, architecture, sculpture, legends-all this fancifully intertwined in one place is amazing.

  • Ok Siri might take you here but I Googled it. This a nice neighborly square mixed with lots, lots tourist and locals, day and night. Very arty with street painters either painting you for money or sale you what they've painted. Small vendors of cheap gifts of all kinds (Made in China, most of them). Except the coffee pot stores have nice choices with a higher cost which I did skipped, too heavy to carry those gorgeous coffee pots/cups back to US anyway. My advise is bring high end, great picture quality, small pocket size travel camera with you, with extra charger battery for back up to take LOTS, LOTS great day and night pictures. Take a lot of pictures and when you get home just delete those pictures were ruined by the street vendors throw the lighting flying toys into the night sky which ruins your supposedly great pictures. And those designer look like fake purses for you ladies....hummmm, if you want them, you should negotiate HARD. I would recommend you save your money and go to the Spanish Steps area and buy the real one. It will be worth it. Reminder, never let the street vendors see you've got lots cash. There're plenty thieves around you in this site, DAY and NIGHT. Come back in either early am or around sunset to take great pictures. When you get home, you'll see those pictures will be worth more then the nice things you've bought.
  • The Fontana del Nettuno (Fountain of Neptune) is a fountain in Rome, Italy, located at the north end of thePiazza Navona. It was once called "Fontana dei Calderari" because it was located close to a small alley with blacksmith's workshops, makers of pots and pans and of other metal based businesses, all of them generating heat.
  • Amazing Fontana
  • At the top of Piazza Navona.
  • Check out the crazy looks on the horses...
