  • Very ugly but historically significant. We passed it many times on Via Babuino( baboon!) because our hotel was on that street. Would I make a special visit? Probably not but right on route between Pia...  more »
  • The fountain of the Babuino is perhaps the best known of the magical circle of the talking sculptures of Rome after Pasquino, not by order of ranking, it is clear, but by visibility, because it is located on the street of the same name of the famous trident, the object of frequenting the mass for the shopping in fashion stores. Located on the side of the church of St. Atanasio of the Greeks, between the square of Spain and the People's Square, it depicts a satyr in grotesque form. A statue so ugly and deformed that it could be compared to a monkey, which strongly influenced the imagination of the Romans, who began to use it for their irreverent protests with anonymous messages addressed to the city authorities. It was the Rome of the period between the Renaissance and the Baroque, but this tradition continued even after.

  • It's on the road next to Margtta Street. There is chocon next to the shop, and the collaboration of the present age and the ancient times is very pretty.

  • Lots of intreasting information and story's around Italy, would recommend walking tour.
  • This strange sculpture has interesting history. In old times he was one of the "talking statues", where people left satirical comments about city government. You can also look for Marforio at Campidoglio, Lucrezia at palazzo Venezia, Pasquino near the piazza Navona.
  • It is worth to take a stroll in Via del Babuino, linking Piazza del Popolo with Piazza di Spagna, not only to admire the palaces and churches that characterize it, but also to appreciate the singular fountain, called Babuino, one of the "talking statues" of Rome. This is actually the image of a "Sileno lying" placed to decorate the tub of the fountain realized when Pope Pius V granted the use of water of a new aqueduct realized in 1571

  • The talking statue of Babuino depicts a reclining Silenus (mythological element of Ancient Greece), located in the Homonymous street (until a few decades ago, still were affixed placards or graphites on the wall behind it). Although the people because of its ugliness, he called it Babuino, for the alleged resemblance to the ape. This nickname took the upper hand which was also renamed the way. After various crossings, the statue was reshaped in 1957 and is currently used as a decorative element of a simple fountain that was once a watering hole for horses. In 2015 The fountain was restored thanks to a donation of Brijuni, Italian brand of luxury clothing, on the right is placed a small plaque as memory,. Note: The speaking statues of Rome represent the spirit of the Roman folklore, were born at the time of the Papal States and through the signs (clearly of anonymous author) that were affixed to you, was made satire or real protest, against the power often just Against the Pope. The talking statues that have arrived up to the present day are six: 1. The most famous is Pasquino, located behind Piazza Navona. 2. Marforio, located at the Capitoline Museums. 3. Madama Lucrezia (the only woman), at St. Mark's Square. 4. The bellhop on Via Lata 5. Babuino on Via del Babuino 6. The abbot Luigi to the side of the church of Sant'Andrea della Valle.

  • Located in the Roman Trident, with an always fresh water we find One of the talking Fountains of Rome... Remember that when the Romans had to complain Nn did nothing but write signs and attack them on the statue.. A kind of amplifier of discomfort to make all the facts known...
