After three months of absence I enjoy Rome and walk along the Center with my sister Daisy, following the ancient duct that connects the Barcaccia fountain, the fountain of the four rivers, near Trevi Fountain. Aqueduct of the Acqua Vergine (19 BC)  is an underground conduit still in use. It underwent changes. I suggest you read the documents-can be found in the network-they have an incredible charm and show you the wonders of which were capable of the ancient Romans. Then, other technical marvel, the Barcaccia fountain that we admire. Many ignore the wisdom of Pietro Bernini, father of the more famous Gian Lorenzo, who worked with the low water pressure Virgin to build the fountain. So I invent the Barcaccia. I leave to your curiosity to the story.  Then I add another treat. In 1627, when Bernini began designing the Barcaccia, there wasn't the Trinità dei Monti, built only in the early 1700 's. How the pilgrims came to the Church? Going up and going up the Hill. The network is powerful: you will find amazing pictures. Good read * _ *

Unfortunately nothing special. Again, a place with too many people. The fountain is not really interesting.

Right at the foot of the Spanish Steps. People were waiting on line to drink the water that was coming out of the spouts. I was skeptical at first but it is supposed to be good so I did it and it was ...  more »

  • This is the spot to sit and watch the world go by. A lovely area with always something to look at. Cool down with the water from the fountain and relax. Big police presence here and don't put your feet in the fountain or you will get a very cross police officer giving you an ear full.
  • Love sitting around this. Be careful trying to get water as parts are very slippery. Had someone fall in when we were there. Actually the same happened the last time i was there too. Maybe its just me.
  • It's a fountain w some history.... cool but nothing crazy.
  • Fontana della Barcaccia is one of the best sightseeing fountains in a city full of those!
  • Next to the Spanish stairs. Very nice composition of Square , stairs and Fontaine. And don't forget to buy an ice cream for the full enjoyment! 🙃

Where to stay in Rome

For easy foot access to most of the city's main historical sites, consider staying in Rome's old town center. The area is conveniently placed for public transport, only a walk away from the city's main railway station. Accommodations here span all hotels sectors, from cheap hostels to luxury brand names. To avoid the steep prices and overcrowding of the town center, explore the hotels in the inner suburbs of Rome. They offer comfortable rooms and excellent food at a fraction of the price charged by the centrally located hotel chains. Another affordable option is the area around Vatican, which boasts a good selection of family-owned B&Bs.
