  • This charming little fountain is supposedly representing the "flood through Rome where a small boat was found washing into the area of the Spanish steps". Lovely fountain & lovely surrounding area!  more »
  • Despite having been destroyed, dirty, damaged and mistreated the Barcaccia is resisting in its architectural beauty. As rightly pointed out by someone they are poor controls both here and in other places where mainly foreign nationals are well regardless of the local monuments. Is always wonderful seeing!!!

  • This fountain adds a special touch to the Spanish steps and the surrounding square. There are stepping stones to reach the running water.
  • This is the spot to sit and watch the world go by. A lovely area with always something to look at. Cool down with the water from the fountain and relax. Big police presence here and don't put your feet in the fountain or you will get a very cross police officer giving you an ear full.
  • Must see location when visiting Rome. Stop here when walking to/from Piazza de Popalo. EARLY morning or after Midnight you can get good pictures.
  • beautiful peace of art, now days is closed with banners, no entry to the fountain zone. really glad for that, because most of the tourists are not really respecting it, so they walk, trash, throw staff, that's made me sad..
  • Very lovely stairs and nice place for tourists all ages

Where to stay in Rome

For easy foot access to most of the city's main historical sites, consider staying in Rome's old town center. The area is conveniently placed for public transport, only a walk away from the city's main railway station. Accommodations here span all hotels sectors, from cheap hostels to luxury brand names. To avoid the steep prices and overcrowding of the town center, explore the hotels in the inner suburbs of Rome. They offer comfortable rooms and excellent food at a fraction of the price charged by the centrally located hotel chains. Another affordable option is the area around Vatican, which boasts a good selection of family-owned B&Bs.
