  • Despite having four centuries of life, remains however the Chiesa Nuova, the name derives from the old, Santa Maria in Vellicella. We meet here at one time artists like Rubens, Caravaggio, Pietro da Cortona.

  • (Martino Longhi the elder, 1599) Also known as Chiesa Nuova, is the main church of the Oratorians, Congregation founded by St Philip Neri in 1561. In 1575 the Pope Gregory XIII recognised group of Philip Neri and gave him this church, next to the small convent annexe. St. Philip rebuilt the building in the same year, under design by the architect Martino Longhi the elder. There are masterpieces as the altarpiece "La Madonna her Vallicella" (Peter Paul Rubens, 1608) and the frescoes "Madonna and San Filippo Neri" (Pietro da Cortona, 1665). Attached to the Church is the "Oratorio dei Filippini" Borromini's architectural work (1667).

  • One polite waitress was the only thing that was respectable about the place. The size of the servings was small but that was not the actual problem. Our dishes were obviously prepared the day before and reheated in the micro-wave. Do not try it ! p.s.: Unless you feel lucky and you think that it's the day they 're actually cooking...
  • Very good food, friendly people and a great atmosphere. It's pretty cheap in tourist's perspective!
  • Great food, nice staff and atmosphere. The prices are normal, under the tourist places. Highly recommended!
  • Rubbish servings, very small by any standards. Pizza was just OK. Walk a bit further and get some real food. Still hungry after today's special spaghetti. Lots of restaurants further up this street.
  • Quaint but cramped, slow service and dishes of questionable quality. Adjusted prices.

Where to stay in Rome

For easy foot access to most of the city's main historical sites, consider staying in Rome's old town center. The area is conveniently placed for public transport, only a walk away from the city's main railway station. Accommodations here span all hotels sectors, from cheap hostels to luxury brand names. To avoid the steep prices and overcrowding of the town center, explore the hotels in the inner suburbs of Rome. They offer comfortable rooms and excellent food at a fraction of the price charged by the centrally located hotel chains. Another affordable option is the area around Vatican, which boasts a good selection of family-owned B&Bs.
