  • This roadway, designed by Michelangelo leads from Piazza di Ara Coeli to the Campidoglio. It is built in a stairway fashion, as the treads are very deep and the risers very small, that allowed passage...  more »
  • I don't hide the possibility that when I get up the Cordonata, I'm struck by a tremor. A mixture of embarrassment, for the many tourists who flock to it, because I eschewed the confusion. And of pride, for the history that we know and are proud of. It's like a steep sloped road, with wide steps that make it look like a staircase. Designed by Buonarroti, it is easy to rise and, looking at it better, I take a detail that I had never noticed: it widens slightly upwards, where are placed the great statues of the Dark Gods, the mythical Castore and Polluce, which on arrival, make me feel like a guest about it.

  • Another lovely little photo point in the city of Rome. Beautiful view from the top of the steps.
  • A great walk and steps going to Musei Capitolini and Marco Aurelio Statue!!
  • Loved these steps
  • If you don’t want to go to the excellent Capitoline Museum for its art collection, then come to see the beautiful building - even if viewed from the bottom of the 50+ steps to get to it, it is a sight to be seen.
  • Nice way to get to Musei Capitolini - When heading up from the Piazza DÁracoeli to the museum up the Capitoline Hill, this is the easiest, the shortest and the most spectacular way. It was designed by Michaelangelo, but was built later by della Porta - somewhere in the end of 16th century. It was used not only for passengers, but also for horses and carriages, thus the relatively slight slope and small steps on even intervals. When going from he lower part to the upper, one gets suddenly to the beautiful Piazza di Campidoglio, designed - again - by Michaelangelo. Visited April 2017
