Colle Aventino, Rome
(4.7/5 based on 750+ reviews on the web)
The site of Remus' mythological attempt to found a city, Colle Aventino features the Mouth of Truth and Circus Maximus, temples dedicated to Portunus and Hercules. On one of the seven hills of Rome, you can wander the streets and parks of what is now primarily a residential district. Visit the Aventine Keyhole, a doorway near the Priory of the Knights of Malta. If you look from just the right angle, it frames the dome of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. Use our Rome itinerary maker to arrange your visit to Colle Aventino and other attractions in Rome.

  • Also for this vantage point you have what to climb. Nice views from the park with oranges trees on the State. On the left side of the Church is the famous door with the keyhole through which you can see the St Peter's Basilica. Quiet place t.o.v. other places in Rome.

  • I started my professional experience at the one of the old seats of a major Italian bank at the foot of this hill and there I worked very long time discovering many tails and fell more and more of this magical place and quiet. It is in the heart of Rome but any day of the week you can enjoy peace and tranquility almost unnatural because we are in Rome. Wherever it breathes history and the eye is constantly captivated by the architectural beauty and history and nature of this place that represents a country in its own right in the big city. You can admire historical churches spectacularly beautiful, you can visit the Orange garden with its wonderful panoramic views of Rome, the keyhole photographing the dome of St. Peter as not even the objective of a camera can do ... and then stroll among lanes and maybe meet famous people who have chosen to live in peace. You can't let it slip this place if you are visiting Rome on a visit or if you are a resident and want to walk quietly to Rome. Highly recommended.
