Colle Aventino, Rome
(4.7/5 based on 750+ reviews on the web)
The site of Remus' mythological attempt to found a city, Colle Aventino features the Mouth of Truth and Circus Maximus, temples dedicated to Portunus and Hercules. On one of the seven hills of Rome, you can wander the streets and parks of what is now primarily a residential district. Visit the Aventine Keyhole, a doorway near the Priory of the Knights of Malta. If you look from just the right angle, it frames the dome of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. Use our Rome itinerary maker to arrange your visit to Colle Aventino and other attractions in Rome.

  • One of the 7 hills of Rome, which is famous for its 4 churches, which are located next to each other, to the rose garden for the keyhole through which you can see the dome of the Vatican, for the garden of orange trees and panoramic views.

  • Here it is quieter, less tourists, several fine churches, monasteries, quiet small gardens/parks and great views. This height was inhabited by the plebeiere, but later it was an exclusive residential area with villas, temples and luxurious bath facilities. During the Middle Ages was the height depopulated. I highly recommend a visit to the churches of Santa Sabina, Sant'Alessio and Sant'Anselmo. Through the keyhole of the Priorato di Malta, can see all the way to the dome of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican (you can also see the dome of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican, from one of the small gardens).

  • The most striking and beautiful Hill of Rome for palaces, churches, and panoramic views can be enjoyed from here. In particular St. Peter in the hole ... of gate lock of the Priory of the Knights of malta. Not to be missed is the Rome that few know! Viva Rome, long live Italy!
