(4.7/5 based on 800+ reviews on the web)
The site of Remus' mythological attempt to found a city, Colle Aventino features the Mouth of Truth and Circus Maximus, temples dedicated to Portunus and Hercules. On one of the seven hills of Rome, you can wander the streets and parks of what is now primarily a residential district. Visit the Aventine Keyhole, a doorway near the Priory of the Knights of Malta. • Maze of small streets in the shadow of the houses on the sides, with small shops where you can breathe the air of the eternal city during the time domain of the Popes. Beautiful

  • Today, 4 February, the walk is on the Aventine hill. It's not a clear day but the place-our favorite destination along the Appian way-is superb.  Walking in churches, among ancient walls and gardens. The Aventine hill is one of the legendary seven hills of Rome and its name flower hypothesis. From birds (aves) that would see Oar fly, the name of the River, the name of the King of Albalonga, Aventine.  First merchant and aristocratic plebeian district, then subsequently, currently home to mansions, monasteries and convents. In Roman times the many temples built in honor of the gods: Mercury, Iuventas, Diana, Ceres and others. Was sacred to Minerva where is now the Church of Saint Prisca and a temple of Juno Regina stood where is now Santa Sabina. Finally the legend that considers the Hill a huge ship sacred to the Knights Templar that sooner or later he would sail to the Holy land.
