A great photogenic couple: this church and Trajan's column, even though the difference in the 16 century. Tried to find something about this church, but besides that it Catholic, didn't find anything ...

On the right, in piazza del Foro Traiano was built in the late Baroque period, in place of an old church dedicated to Saint Bernard, this church dedicated to SS. nome di Maria, the title established by the Pope to celebrate the victory of Sobieski over the Turks and the liberation of Vienna in 1683. Marvel the façade compact, formed at the bottom by a base of columns and pilasters between which opens the portal of entry. The balustrade which separates the two orders has statues of the evangelists and prophets, creates a movement and attracts the eye enthralled to the high heavens. The upper order stands the dome with pilasters that border eight spaces in which to open the Windows. The Interior just as magnificent and opulent, decorated with polychrome marbles, is a circular plan with radiating chapels. The medallions that adorn the cupola are frescoed with stories from the life of Mary ". On the main altar is worshiped an image of the Virgin and child painted on wood (the Roman school of the 13th century).

Right on the Trajan column is this beautiful little Baroque church with two side chapels built in 1741. It has a great and beautiful dome and a shiny nice altar. There are many beautiful paintings here and great stucco angels.

  • Went there back in 2014 amazing architecture. you only see history and art in every corner
  • Wonderful exterior and interior. Sadly unable to take photos within the church.
  • Another lovely baroque church, this one situated at the edge of Trajan's Forum. It creates a nice contrast to it's more ancient surroundings. It's this type of juxtaposition of eras which gives this part of Rome it's sense of layer upon layer of history, all built onto itself.
  • Nice.
  • We were here december 16th - what a nice church and what a beautiful Christmas Concert. Great place!

Where to stay in Rome

For easy foot access to most of the city's main historical sites, consider staying in Rome's old town center. The area is conveniently placed for public transport, only a walk away from the city's main railway station. Accommodations here span all hotels sectors, from cheap hostels to luxury brand names. To avoid the steep prices and overcrowding of the town center, explore the hotels in the inner suburbs of Rome. They offer comfortable rooms and excellent food at a fraction of the price charged by the centrally located hotel chains. Another affordable option is the area around Vatican, which boasts a good selection of family-owned B&Bs.
