  • The Church of St. Lawrence in Panisperna is a little hidden, but no less beautiful than many others. In fact, perhaps one of the most beautiful in Rome. Inside you can breathe the taste of art and spirituality. Well cared for, by the Sisters Oblate Agostinian Madonna of Trust, the Church inspires the recollection and contemplation of the beautiful and the Divine. Inside a beautiful and ancient Crucifix. Congratulations to the Herres for the care!

  • The Church, of the fourth century is poorly understood, but interesting. Known as San Lorenzo in Panisperna: the name comes from the tradition of the Poor Clares which during the festivities in honor of San Lorenzo were distributed to the poor bread and perna, namely bread and ham, both with the name of San Lorenzo in Formosa by the name of Builder of the first church, Pope formosus. The Church was built on the spot where Saint Lawrence was burned, was buried for a period Saint Bridget of Sweden. The access to the Church by a double and elegant staircase that leads to a courtyard after which, through another double flight of stairs, past the beautiful carved wooden door, you walk into the courtroom with a single nave which preserves interesting works of art as the coffered roof with the fresco la Gloria di San Lorenzo ", the sixteenth-century fresco" the martyrdom of St Lawrence ", the painting" the stigmata of St Francis "and the wooden crucifix from the early 16th century. To see the tomb of Saints Crispin and Crispinian and the oven in which, according to legend, St. Lawrence was burned in an underground chapel. Several burials of families Orsini. The Church has a beautiful Renaissance brick steeple inspired by medieval models.

  • Kept in the crypt of this church is the gridiron used according to sacred tradition for martyred Lawrence, precisely in this place; You can also visit its small museum with the blood of San Lorenzo and the relics of St Crispin and St Crispinian. The very name of "Panisperna" is linked to this church ederiva from the tradition of Benedictine monks and Clarisse to distribute bread and ham to the poor on the day of the anniversary of the Saint. Certainly the Church which lies at the foot of colle Viminale, on the highest point of the ups and downs that characterize the way, is of ancient origin much to make her go back to the time of Constantine, founded to mark the place, right after the martyrdom of Lorenzo; then the Church was rebuilt in 1300 by Pope Boniface VIIIin at the first Jubilee and modified in 1575. Through two flights of stairs you reach a beautiful portal with a broken pediment bearing the coat of arms of Pope Leo XIII, it passes in a leafy courtyard at the bottom to which you have access to the Church. The 16th-century façade is the work of Francesco da Volterra and presents over a staircase double ramp access, simple lines with two orders divided by pilasters and a large eye in the middle of the Crown, the wooden door. The Interior contains many burials of noble families of Orsini and Colonna and two frescoes ever sixteenth out of episodes from the life of St Lorenzo, to note also the presence of a crucifix from the early 1400 and an ancient sarcophagus of the 3rd century AD. An important warning about the particular that the Church can be visited a little before church services.
