  • This church is located just behind the Ministry of Justice building, near the Garibaldi Bridge on the River Tiber. The façade has a simple white look and the thick pillars next to the gate are impressive. A lot of religious paintings were displayed inside, and the walls and ceilings were bright. There is also a brick bell tower right next to the façade.

  • The old Romanesque church survived only the imposing belfry, however reduced in height, from the original one, but the complex of s. Maria in Monticelli still retains its charm despite the stylistic and chromatic contrast between the façade of the temple and the nearby Bell Tower. The real star is undoubtedly this Romanesque Bell Tower, dating back to eleven hundred squares that presents four floors before mullioned Windows, trefoils in pillars, finally trefoils in studs. The ancient temple was rebuilt in the late 18th century there appears in the form, and then in the nineteenth century by stones and blues. This site in Roman times housed the Temple of Neptune, by the renowned Greek architect Hermodoros, whose ruins remain on site went to form the mound, the elevation of land which was called the place name and the Church. The interior retains the original columns and the ancient basilical floor to us wrapped in thick pillars. Inside to admire the fresco depicting the scourging of Annibale Carracci, a Madonna with child basin and a gorgeous wooden crucifix of fourteenth century. Medieval apse is a fragment of a mosaic of eleven hundred with the face of the Savior.

  • It is found from Spada Palace was walking in the direction of the South-East around the Church. Found seems to be ancient Roman ruins in this area, so I looked long and came to the church towers of dark red color.

  • For a late afternoon visit better. At the closing when the lights go out. Near darkness stirs a magic atmosphere.

  • Little-known and highly decorated Church as almost all in Rome. Brightly colored in green and blue paintings decorate walls and ceilings. Pretty side chapels the most significant the altar and painting that crowns it with the tree of Jesse finished in an icon of the face of Christ. It is worth approaching to see it when you are in the area.
