  • The ward owes the name to this ancient Church that was originally a monastery (the 7th century). The interior is three aisles divided by 24 columns. Beautiful inscription "ex qua domo cotidie pia mater mittebat ad clivum Scauri scutellam leguminum". St. Silvia, mother of St. Gregory the Great, brought daily in a silver cup the food to her son, who there was laughing.

  • Basilica built in the 7th century above a domus attributed by some to St. Silvia, mother of Pope St. Gregory the Great. From excavations it would seem already preexisting a primitive monastic oratory, founded by the disciples of S.Saba - to which the church is dedicated - hermit and bishop lived in Palestine in 500 AD and which here was also buried according to some reconstructions. The original church was in time, like all the others in Rome, the subject of various extensive restorations and renovations, the last pertinent to the coffered ceiling in the first post-war period. Internally you will find interesting archaeological finds and paintings from the 11th century, as well as a valuable cosmatian model floor. In the underground there is the small and original ancient oratory, which can only be visited on the occasion of the feast of The S.Patron on December 5.

  • Here, wanted to see the fresco painting. Have a ragtag merchants but poor life for dowry, he married daughters. My daughter one night, sleeping Saint St. Nikolaus softly throw some money. Successful daughters could go to the bride. This is the beginning of the story of Santa Claus. Liked the composition of St. Nicholas provide the money bag to sleep with the father of three daughters.

  • This beautiful church is under restauration (August 2019). The neighborhood is very nice and peaceful very close to the Bath of Caracalla.
  • It is quite uncommon, in a city dominated by baroque and post-baroque, to find such a quiet and balanced church. Nice after a stroll in the neighborhood
  • Catholic churches that are unique in Europe
  • The Basilica of S. Saba rises on the small aventine between IV and V century D. C.. The tripartite apse, which has a recently mentioned listing, overlooks the Piazza Bernini. The interior still bears the imprint of the 5 naves: The classroom is tripartite the fourth nave is incorporated in the sacristy, the fifth, of reduced size and height, is located on the left side of the building. The columns are of bare, the cosmatesque floor (the family of Cosma and sons, called the Cosmati was active in Rome and province between the ELEVENTH and FOURTEENTH centuries). The apse bears a splendid medieval fresco in the form of a palimpsest, i.e. overlapping frescoes of different eras and styles. The extreme left nave also bears frescoes. The oldest frescoes, dating from the VIII-IX centuries, coming from the crypt, were detached and currently kept on the walls of the sacristy. Some fragments depict S. Saba and the monks his followers. The exterior is an example of fortress monastery with porch, porch and access door (other similar examples are the Church of the Sa. Four Coronati and the Cistercian abbey of the three fountains, in particular the Arch of Charlemagne). A relief with hunting scene kept on the external wall is valuable.

  • An ancient church on the so-called "Aventino minor", fortunately little restored, front garden and oratory on the opposite side, perfectly inserted in what was born as a district of popular Casine
