  • The history of Chiesa di San Rocco all'Augusteo began in the 16th century, when the brotherhood of Saint Roch, created to help the sick of the plague, was allowed to build a hospital of St. Roch near the roman river port known since the 9th century Ripetta. In fact, the church was built near the hospital and it was dedicated, of course, to St. Roch, the patron saint of plague patients. In the 19th century, the construction of the church was completed when in 1832 the facade was built, in the neoclassical style, designed by the architect Giuseppe Valadier. Fortunately, the church survived the grandiose construction of 1890, when due to the construction of the Tibra embankment and the Kavur Bridge, the port of Ripetta, the hospital of St. Roch, and even the bell tower of the church were demolished... But Chiesa di San Rocco all'Augusteo survived, for the benefit of the Romans and the tourists who joined them...

  • It was a route called The Church of San Rocco, which crosses the Cavour Bridge from the Supreme Court ⇒ The Best Court. It is located just before The Tomb of Augustus. There was a small coupola, and the charm was felt.

  • One of the many churches in Rome (++ 900). Located next to Augustus Mausoleum. It was finished by Giuseppe Valadier in 1832 with Palladio-influenced facade. Originally a chapel adjacent to hospital and founded by Pope Alexander VI in 1499. Architectural style Baroque. It has several paintings like Nativity and St Martin of Tours. At the end of right aisle is a shrine to 17th century image of the Madonna delle Grazie.
  • Beautifully spirited
  • While walking over to the wonderful Cavour district and crossing the superb stone bridge Ponte Cavour you cannot miss this fantastic looking church. The church is similar to a lot of churches you will find spread throughout this gorgeous city ,I though Krakow was full of stunning churches but on this my first holiday to Rome I was blown away by the sheer amount of beautiful churches to be found all over the city.. Well worth checking out. This church is across from the Ara Pacis. Dedicated to Saint Rocco (or Roch), a saint called on for protection against the plague, often depicted with an open sore on his leg and accompanied by a little dog. Originally founded in 1499 by Pope Alexander VI, the church was rebuilt several times, most recently in 1832 by Giuseppe Valadier. I was able to go in one evening when the church was dark but very peaceful, service had just finished. The interior has a central nave and three chapels on each side (the first on the left is like a grotto). The church has a painted ceiling. On the outside of the church on one side, note the marker showing the water levels from the Tiber’s floods.
  • Very beautiful place!
  • A very splendid experience
