Religious Site
The Chiesa del Sacro Cuore di Gesù in Prati, also known as Chiesa del Sacro Cuore del Suffragio, is a catholic place of worship in the centre of Rome, rising in the rione Prati, hosting the parish with the same name, entrusted to the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart. The church, designed by engineer Giuseppe Gualandi, is sometimes referred as the little Milan Cathedral, due to its rich neogothic style.HistoryIn 1893, the Missionary of the Sacred Heart Victor Jouët, born in Marseille, founded in Rome the Associazione del Sacro Cuore del Suffragio delle Anime del Purgatorio (Italian for "Association of the Sacred Heart of the Suffrage of the Purgatory Souls"), having the aim to spread the worship to the Sacred Heart and to the Virgin Mary. The former oratory of the Association rose in Via dei Cosmati; a second one, used between 1896 and 1914, was located in Lungotevere Prati, into a ground that the founder had bought in order to build a bigger church, whose foundation stone was blessed in 1894 by Joseph-Jean-Louis Robert, Bishop of Marseille.

  • The Church is beautiful, from the strong neo-Gothic style (view from afar looks to another confession) and was completed in 1917. It seems the Milan dome shrunken. The most interesting things are the shovel behind the altar and the Museum of the souls in purgatory. The Museum has been open since the beginning, when during a fire appeared a soul departed and his shadow would remain etched in the walls. This is a collection of testimonies of consecrated persons and belonging to the clergy: deceased souls that would have left evidence of their presence on paper, stones, miscellaneous items. The Church has not officially pronounced on the veracity of these accounts, but has not imposed to close the Museum. Among other things, Pope John Paul II visited the Church on February 1, 1998.

  • In this small but beautiful church devoted a minimum of attention even though it is a work not surely vetusta. The construction began in 1908 on the basis of the draft prepared by engineer Giuseppe Gualandi. The Church is also known by the nickname "little Milan Cathedral" for its rich Gothic style.

  • Sul Lungotevere Prati, this small Church holds a collection from chills: footprints left by the souls in purgatory who sought to contact the living. The Church was founded by father Victor Jouet in 1894, but after three years, a fire broke out which revealed the first amazing trace: a suffering face you saw on a wall. For father jouet there was little doubt, he was a soul of the afterlife that was trying to communicate with the living world and so began to collect books, textiles and pictures that they witnessed these contacts. Believe it or not, a visit is worth it without a doubt. The Church is really valuable and each exhibit has a history. 19:00 7:30 16:00 11:00,-schedule:-

  • Unusual but quite pretty gothicish church
  • POOR PARISH ORGANIZATION! In many we prepared to visit day 15 August for the feast of our Lady assumed into heaven and the Church was closed (and it was all day!)! A shame! The only warning available was only a piece of paper attached to the door we read after arriving there with so much effort! If I could I wouldn't even have a star!
