  • At a small party in the area, I ventured on the Caelian Hill, with the little street (Salita di San Gregorio) and viale delle Terme di Caracalla leads directly (last walk) to the so-called "Church of the chandeliers," the Basilica of Santi Giovanni e Paolo. Only the location is worth the visit, with the magnificent San Gregorio al Celio on the right and a wonderful view over the holes on the left foot, under the arcades, I found the entrance door to a monument that I didn't know: the Roman houses under the basilica. Another one of the hidden treasures of this wonderful city! Must see: are Roman houses of different periods excavated under the Basilica and perfectly preserved. Guided tours on the occasion of celebrations of various kinds.

  • A great opportunity to see an ancient site and how one house was built on another. Great archeological site with a magnificent restoration work done. The site is just behind the more classic Roman sit...  more »
  • Truly unique experience. Artefacts in excellent condition. From the outside you never would guess the masterpieces present within

  • For the price and out of the way location, there's not much to see here. The best part is the view of the arches located at street level. For a better experience, visit the excavation under Basilica San Clemente.
  • Fascinating place and little traffic from mass tourism. Pity that Tuesday and Wednesday are closed, I could not visit the Church of San Giovanni e Paolo.

  • Amazing place, with Roman frescoes between paganism and Christianity preserved fine and interspersed with nineteenth-century altars

  • These remains of Roman houses are located in a beautiful location not far from the Colosseum, under the Basilica of Santi Giovanni e Paolo and well worth a visit along with other emergencies in the area, even if they contain no frescoes, mosaics and House of quality. Visiting in the morning and the afternoon five days a week, for those who prefer independently or with a guide and any other initiatives (aperitifs, events, recitations, music), all with reservation and supplement. There is restaurant business. You can find car park (for an additional fee on weekdays) and services at a distance.
