Campo de' Fiori, Rome

(3.7/5 based on 2,400+ reviews on the web)
Campo de' Fiori undergoes three transformations in a day. Visit in the morning to browse an open-air street market with local produce and souvenirs. By afternoon, the market is gone, and sidewalk restaurants take its place. Come in the evening to experience an electric atmosphere. The square comes alive with music and is packed with people flooding out of restaurants and bars. Look for the ancient La Terrina fountain. Its inscription, translated, reads, "Do the good and let them talk." With our world travel planner, Rome attractions like Campo de' Fiori can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • It is a square with charm, but although we had not in the list of visits, I recommend go through it and eat there. It is the market square, you can buy all kinds of pasta and fruit. As there were many people ate at the restaurant Baccanale, well, with all the typical of Rome. Recodendado by that er times, the artichokes, in various forms, in sauce with pasta.

  • In the past the piazza Campo de ' Fiori didn't exist and in this place there were vegetable gardens and meadows. Later it became an important business center where hotels, taverns and inns were built and for its strategic location was paved the area and the construction of many buildings. In the immediate vicinity, with more renovations, were later constructed other buildings such as the palazzo della Cancelleria and the Palace of the Farnese family. In Campo de ' Fiori were punishments and executions and was the main stage of public executions. Accused of heresy in this square was burned alive the Dominican friar Giordano Bruno. For the memory of the philosopher on the stake was created then a bronze monument where tourists and young people sit on the comfortable basement steps to socialize and listen to the music of the street performers. The historical and folklore is occupied by square farmers market while the night opens its doors to entertainment and catering. Campo de ' Fiori is the classic favorite nightspot and nightlife place especially by young people who meet, speak, sing, play in spreading joy around the many clubs of the square.
