Bioparco di Roma, Rome

#4 of 86 in Parks in Rome
Bioparco di Roma, or the Rome Zoo, was founded in 1908 so the public could view exotic animals and learn about their habitats. Since then, the park has added conservation and environmental education to its goals. The blend of early 20th-century architecture next to the recreated habitats gives the zoo a fantastical appearance that combines human history with natural history. Arrive well before closing time at 5 p.m., because many of the habitats close early to accommodate the animals. • I take the time to give you an opinion and return ... Go ahead, it's really good! I confess that the negative comments about the last few months read on TripAdvisor scared me but WHAT SURPRISE, arriving around 11am, quiet visit with the healers, animals that were having fun with the tricks for each in order to animate them, proximity, the quality of the message to associate the visit with a pedagogical approach, tactile animations to understand, cleanliness... in short a beautiful morning and a huge surprise about diversity! Bravo Bémol: plan the meal because not many offers inside, average shop but is this the main thing ?!? The photo of my favorite!

  • Pleasant family day. My son of almost 4 years loved it. He had the chance to see his favorite animals live. The zoo is cute, well maintained and even the animals seemed well kept. I recommend it for a different day in the company of small children

  • The zoo itself is a great. They bears and tamarins seemed to really enjoy their life in there. On the other hand you can ask yourself the ethicalness of having orangutans there.  more »

  • It’s a great place to visit if you’re looking for a quiet tourist-free area. The zoo is huge but nicely kept, all clean and well organized. It was really hot when I went there so I couldn’t see all the animals as they were hiding in shade. The ticket is 16€.
  • Loved every minute. Offer on in August for €10 each. Absolutely amazing place. Absolutely massive! Drink/ice cream stands everywhere. Only downside is the toilets, they need more attention.
  • What a wonderful zoo! I came mainly for the Ring-tailed lemurs, and they did not disappoint! Their exhibit was so awesome! I also loved the meerkats with their babies, your hippos, guinea pigs, and the sea lions! Such a wonderful zoo!
  • Nice spot for a quiet and shaded walk, especially if you have little kids with you and the streets of Rome are a bit too much! It’s big enough to spend half a day here if you’re moving at toddler pace. There are a few different playgrounds - all good ones - if your children tire of looking at animals. Just beware that the two cafe-kiosks inside the zoo were not open when we went on a Monday in September - only the cafe that’s outside the zoo exit/gift shop was open. So, come armed with water and snacks. In terms of the animals, some enclosures were nice and the animals seemed content. Others were not so good; it was sad to see a female lion just walking in circles.
  • It was one of the very kids-friendly places to go in Rome. Not crowded at all, and visited mainly by locals. Really loved the proximity we got to the animals, and the lay out allowed us to see the groups of animals in each section at one go. There were too many animals and we didnt manage to see them all. The playground made the visible more enjoyable for our son. After reading the reviews here, we minimised visiting toilet and having a meal here. It was a good move.
