  • We came in the evening in the San Lorenzo district on the feast of 10 August, in piazzale del Verano we intercepted the precession with the statue of San Lorenzo started from the Basilica that sits alongside the Verano monumental cemetery. The Church in its oldest part is the time of Constantine, with various additions over the centuries, underwent shelling that the Americans in San Lorenzo, rebuilt in the damaged parts, many frescoes were lost, some parts were closed as evening, we will have to come for a visit during regular business hours to better appreciate this church.

  • Solitary Basilica outside the tourist circuits. The set is beautiful, and is formed by the union of a 6th century Church and a reform of the centuries XII - XIII. It is imposing and silent and has Paleochristian mosaics and cosmatescos. s one of the lesser-known gems of Rome. Must-see

  • A splendid Basilica just outside the old city walls, but incorporated in the city today. Little known compared to the other basilicas, but worthy of a visit.

  • Little known but definitely worth nota.assolutamente to see. Inserted in the particular context of the Verano 'it to visit too.
  • About1550, the headless statue of a seated Wgure was discovered near the Church of San Lorenzo fuori le Mura, in the suburbs of Rome.8 Inscribed in Greek characters on a plinth on the rear of the chair is a list of writings. These include a work ‘On the Psalms' , ‘On John the Evangelist and the Apocalypse' , a ‘Chronicle to the Greeks' , an ‘Apostolic Tradition' , and a ‘Demonstration of the dates of Easter in Tabular Form' . On the right side of the chair there is a heading above a 16-year table of Paschal full moons. On the left side of the chair there is a 112-year list of dates for Easter Sunday, under the heading, ‘First year of Alexander Caesar: the Sundays of the Pascha year by year: points indicate the bissextum.' The inscriptions belong paleographically to the Wrst half of the third century (Brent 1995: 3–4). At the head of the 16-year table the inscription reads: In the Wrst year of the Roman emperor Alexander Severus, the 14th of the Paschal moon fell on Saturday, the Ides of April, during an embolismic month. For the succeeding years it will be as indicated in the table below. Events of the past were as noted. One must break the fast when Sunday comes
  • A very historical basilica but need restoration especially the tomb of st laurence
  • Not as ornate as other churches in Rome, but had an interesting history and isn't crowded
  • Wonderful basilica, a magical place with a special light. One of the most beautiful basilicas in Rome. Compulsory visit. Priests funny and always sympathetic with visitors. Get on the altar and around to the entrance and you will see the most beautiful mosaic!

Where to stay in Rome

For easy foot access to most of the city's main historical sites, consider staying in Rome's old town center. The area is conveniently placed for public transport, only a walk away from the city's main railway station. Accommodations here span all hotels sectors, from cheap hostels to luxury brand names. To avoid the steep prices and overcrowding of the town center, explore the hotels in the inner suburbs of Rome. They offer comfortable rooms and excellent food at a fraction of the price charged by the centrally located hotel chains. Another affordable option is the area around Vatican, which boasts a good selection of family-owned B&Bs.
