  • An interesting small but very old church (4th century). Inside there are frescoes with the tortures of early Christians and an interesting mosaic. Relatively close to the Colosseum.  more »

  • This church was one of my favorite stops in Rome. It's a little out of the way, but that helps in that it doesn't draw the crowds the more well known churches draw, allowing for a moment of quiet reflection and prayer. The murals of the martyrs that cover all of the walls are absolutely stunning and a stark reminder of how much the faith meant to the believers of the past.
  • Very interesting church lined with wall paintings of martyr's deaths
  • Some shocking paintings showing the deaths of the Roman martyrs. When I first came to Rome, it was barely possible to make out the figures in the paintings, but after a wonderful restoration job, the colours and details stand out beautifully.
  • a very interesting and special church, very old, and built over an even older mithraeum
  • Unmissable: one of the oldest ROUND churches of Rome, very well hidden on Celio hill. Impressive frescoes with Christian martyrs being tortured .
