  • The Basilica of Neptune is a basilica built in Rome by Marcus Vipsanio Agrippa in honor of the god of the sea Neptune, to celebrate his naval victories. The remains of the basilica stand behind the Pantheon.

  • Today the Basilica of Neptune is almost totally absorbed by the mole of the Pantheon, and makes it difficult to read an architectonic and volumetric interpretation. Created by Marco Vipsanio Agrippa in honor of the sea god Neptune, to celebrate his naval victories, is now visible from the road. Not to be missed! @gargio76

  • Very beautiful! It has very big history in it. You can just look outside or in and just time travel.
  • lovely
  • A masterpiece of Roman architecture although reduced to the state of ruins. The marble fragments have been relocated to their original location following a restoration. I advise you to look carefully and appreciate the great decorative quality and aesthetics of the Roman decorative friezes. The Roman brick wall has been extensively integrated and clearly distinguishes the original parts from those reconstructed by the different wall weaving. A fragment of the basilica's frieze, characterized by the presence of dolphins, trident and shells, is preserved in the museum of the Opera of the Cathedral of Pisa and was used in the Middle Ages as a pluteo, that is, as a fence of the presbytery area or the altar.

  • The Basilica of Neptune, which is located on the back of the Pantheon and from which, unfortunately, there is little left, was built in honor of the victory of Agrippa in the naval battle at Akcium. If anyone has forgotten the school history, it is a sea battle between Octavian Augustus on the one hand and Cleopatra and Mark Antony on the other. Also a very strong impression leaves "not the ceremonial " part of the Pantheon.
