  • One of the gates/arches of the original walls protecting Rome. It’s purpose has changed and it has been repaired over the years. It is worth having a quick look if one is in the area.  more »
  • The remains of the Arch of Dolabella and Silano are located on the hill Celio and from the wide of the military health service allow access to the road that leads to the basilica of Saints John and Paul. The arch was built in the very first years after Christ and had a height of over six and a half meters but having been partially buried presently appears decidedly lower. Completely built in travertine was incorporated into the ancient Roman walls and was later used to support the structures of the aqueducts. This arch is one of the historical attractions of The Celio and being close to the park of Villa Celimontana and the church of Santa Maria in Domnica is not even difficult to detect.

  • The arch still intact and clearly visible leads to the church of Saints John and Paul, fortified and well structured is pleasantly to be observed with much interest.

  • Very small arch and away from public transit links. There is a bus stop nearby for number 81.
  • Amazing!
  • This is a wonderful place in the heart of Rome. Rich in history and spirituality. From the house of Saints John and Paul to the Church where St. Gregory the Great ate with the poor and no less where also inhabited Mother Teresa of Calcutta

  • The Arch of Dolabella and Silano (pictured above) was built in 10 A.D. by consuls Cornelio Dolabella and Gaio Giunio Silano, as it reads (barely) on the attic of the exterior facade: "P. CORNELIUS P. F. DOLABELLA / C. IUNIUS C. F. SILANUS FLAMEN(IS) / CO(N) ULES) / EX S(ENATUS) C(ONSULTO) / FACIUNDUM CURAVERUNT IDEMQUE PROBAVER(UNT)", i.e. "P. Cornelius Dolabella, son of Publio, and Gaio Giunio Silano, son of Gaius, flamine of Mars, consuls, by decree of the Senate contracted (this work) and made the testing". The ancient Caelimontana Gate But in truth it was a reconstruction because the underlying travertine arch (pictured 1) must be identified with the ancient Caelimontanadelle Mura Serviane gate, as confirmed by some blocks of Dark Cave tuff located on the right side of the arch Same. In 211 A.D., during the restoration work carried out at the behest of Settimio Severo and Caracalla at the Neroian Aqueduct, a secondary branch of the Claudius Aqueduct, the arch was used to support the large arches that still tower over it. According to an ancient 18th-century tradition, that window superimposed on the arch hides a small room in which he lived from 1209 until the year of his death in 1213, St. John de Matha, founder of the Order of the Trinitarians, who had the mission to heal the redeemed slaves. For this reason, the Order received as a gift from Pope Innocent III the premises of an ancient Benedictine monastery called S.Tommaso in formis.

  • A cozy, clean place. Friendly and professional staff. Very well prepared dishes. The tradition from the plate to the palate without complex aggravations, but simple and direct. Deserves all our appreciation with the promise to be your guests again. Be patient is always full, but once seated everything proceeds wonderfully. Great local tasting menu.
