  • Not all guides during a sightseeing tour of the city on the way to the Piazze Navona offer glimpse into this door in a faceless massive wall on the street of the Risorgimento. Most pass by, not paying attention to it. We were lucky with the Guide. Since then, each time being in Rome, look here. Firstly, it is not possible to drink on the unique architecture of the Temple of St. Ivo Alla Sapienza. Secondly, there are often conducted interesting temporary exhibitions.

  • In the Palazzo della Sapienza, which means "Palace of the science surrounding the Church of St Ivo, the patron of scholars and lawyers, is housed at the State Archives of Rome. Often hosts temporary historical and artistic exhibitions, free admission. Tourists here seen infrequently. The temple hit harder, it is open only during masses on certain days.

  • The archive is located in palazzo sapienza, just a few steps from Piazza Navona and may merit a prolonged visit inside. She was curious, given that we got but the date was postponed.

  • The tower is the inspiration for the Church of Our Savior's Church at Christianshavn, Denmark. Look into the yard and look up.
  • Go in here! This is a famous courtyard, and it's usually open. You'll see Borromini's Sant'Ivo (Saint Yves) which is actually gorgeous, look at the curves and read up on that one. It's got a spiralling spire. Inside the courtyard is peace and quiet - this place is on any good list of hidden Rome.
  • The State Archives is a useful thing. Especially for history

Where to stay in Rome

For easy foot access to most of the city's main historical sites, consider staying in Rome's old town center. The area is conveniently placed for public transport, only a walk away from the city's main railway station. Accommodations here span all hotels sectors, from cheap hostels to luxury brand names. To avoid the steep prices and overcrowding of the town center, explore the hotels in the inner suburbs of Rome. They offer comfortable rooms and excellent food at a fraction of the price charged by the centrally located hotel chains. Another affordable option is the area around Vatican, which boasts a good selection of family-owned B&Bs.
