  • We have had the privilege of making a discovery for a select few, in a context and atmosphere that only the Eternal City can offer. From the top of its dominant position on the Janiculum, the American Academy offers itself to the gaze in all its prestige as an international cultural institution and the Villa Farnesina that hosts it was born to welcome a dynamic community that turns its work and the his thoughts towards the future, linked to what is happening in the arts and studies in Italy, Europe and the rest of the world. With circumspection and eyes full of amazement in a place rich in history, we admired the beautiful courtyard, the rich library and the wide green park oasis of rest and conviviality, where artists and scholars come to relax or study and meditate under a row of olive trees or in the shade of Roman pines. Here, past and present are united forever.

  • Home to the American Academy in Rome, it was a fascinating discovery. Rich and wooden library, large green spaces - well cared for -, meeting rooms and a "canteen room" with convening aspects. All dedicated to the study and deepening of fine Italian arts: from sculpture to architecture, from the preservation of artistic goods to literature and poetry. Well, it seems that more and more foreigners appreciate and study the beauties of our Italy than we were born in this beautiful land. Go to believe.

  • This Academy has existed for a century, and unlike others is only financed by private funds, as all foreign academies she followed the example of the France, which was the first country to open one. The building doesn't have the charm of the older academies since it was built for this purpose while many others have invested of magnificent villas or former Palace. His garden is superb and despite the Mediterranean trees evokes rather an English garden, a rustic abode occupies the place where Galileo to made his first observations with a telescope, its lounges and bar are very welcoming and it is received very friendly. The formalities for a visit are easier than anywhere else. Finally this visit also allows to walk in this splendid little-known neighborhood tourists and in which abound the splendid mansions.

  • A magic place in Rome. You need to be a member , friend of the academy, to have access to this academy where artists in residence fellows live. Members enjoy art activities, conferences. There are a few days in a year when it opens its doors to public for exhibits. Be on the watch out and do not miss these opportunities. You may also enjoy its weekly free half hour guided tours which needs advance registration. Such a well-kept place. Its setting, gardens are pure joy. It is also the pioneer of sustainable food project and member of Rome”s slow food community. Suggest check out the project’s internship program. The Villa Aurelia building of the American Academy can be booked for events. Many celebrities had taken advantage of it for their weddings.
