Braida, Rocchetta Tanaro

Very friendly and knowledgeable tour host who explained the family history and wine philosophy eloquently. The wines range from good to great. Definitely worth a visit. We have visited many wineries over the years and this was one of the best visits we have experienced.

This must be the funnest visit to any winery so far in our lives! We - a group of three persons - expected the tour to last about one and a half or two hours but actually it took more than three hours. The presenter was very kind and great fun and made us feel quite relaxed. There were hilarious details like squeezing through a tiny door and being met by a mock hit on the head by a double magnum (or was it a Jeroboam?) The presenter led us through the cellars drawing our attention to many interesting details like the numerous humorous wine-related paintings/posters on the walls painted by a friend of the late Giacomo Bologna's. The most important wines - the Barberas - were complex and very strong: Bricco dell'Uccellone, Bricco della Bigotta and Ai Suma. The cheaper Montebruna was good too as well as the Bracchetto d'Acqui, la Monella and the Moscato d'Asti - and the grappa. We appreciated the moderate pricing as well.
