Trail 2, Riomaggiore

(3.8/5 based on 300+ reviews on the web)
Trail 2, also known as Sentiero Azzurro, connects the five villages that make up Cinque Terre. Hike through terraced hills covered in vineyards and olive trees, with panoramic views of the sea and the picturesque towns you will pass. Stop in each town to explore before continuing to the next. You may choose to hike the whole path, or choose a smaller portion, depending on your stamina and desires. Some of the paths include many stairs, so be sure you are prepared with good walking shoes, water, and plenty of sunscreen. You can buy a day trail pass, which includes transportation on the park buses and access to the trails. For a little more money, another pass allows you to ride the train between Levanto and La Spezia as well. Arrange to visit Trail 2 and other attractions in Cinque Terre using our Cinque Terre vacation builder.

  • The coastal path number 2 is the main path, known as the blue trail, which crosses the entire Cinque Terre from Monterosso to Riomaggiore. Between the latter and Manarola becomes the famous Via dell'Amore. Unfortunately the route is often closed intermittently for maintenance or safety due to maintenance and landslides and on my last outing at 5 Terre I had to resort frequently to the local train or hiking at high altitudes that are more tiring.

  • As already septum all trek that can be done at 5 terre are beautiful to do. They all have a breathtaking view, with a beautiful sea view. You can cross all 5 small towns. From Monterosso to Corniglia doing the stretch above the sea and from Corniglia to Riomaggiore doing the Trek inland. Beautiful. It is possible to do it all in one day but you have to be very well trained. Advice, if you want to take it slow and with no effort, to do the route in two days. Maybe doing from Monterosso to Vernazza in the morning (dining restaurant), then from the latter to Corniglia in the afternoon. And the next day from Corniglia to Manarola in the morning, and from Manarola to Riomaggiore in the afternoon.
