  • One of the things to do if you are on vacation on Elba, is the visit to the Park of Rio Marina, not only at the Museum but also to old quarries, book at least the day before, to make sure you can go around to the quarries with trenino. The Museum is still very interesting, though small, is derived from the old base of the mine, and has a very nice collection and rich in minerals, even rare, from the island of Elba, mostly from private collections. However, when I went there I (mid-July 2016) there was also a small exhibition with fossils from Bolca! In addition to minerals on display, you can figure out how to work the iron mining in mines, since the Napoleonic era. By booking and paying 12 € per person, tour train, traveling from the port of Rio Marina, behind the Museum, where there is parking, and leads up to the quarries where they extracted the iron pyrite. The ride is very interesting, well worth the money spent, and eventually the train stops at a quarry, it gave everyone a Pickaxe, and you are left free for about a quarter of an hour finding little treasures, with the help of guardian, which was really very nice. At the age of 29 years old, I had to tear down and seek minerals, which of course you can take home in a bag, always offered by the Park. In short, to do!

  • You can visit the Museum at the former headquarters of mining that has an interesting collection of minerals of Elba and not only over what materials and documentation related to mining activity: this you can accompany a visit to mining camps using a train traveling from Rio and that climbs the mountain once used to extract minerals, especially iron. Along the way explains the various sites and their features. Beautiful views and scenery. Together with the mining site of Capoliveri helps you better understand the history of Elba and its inhabitants and the importance of the island since ancient times. Staff very helpful and courteous. Not to be missed.

  • Lovely day on the train traveling from the port and climbs to take you to the quarries. The great thing for us is the view from the train and the surrounding landscape with the ground in some places it is all a sbirluccichio. Arrived at the quarry they give you pick and bag to collect pyrite and Hematite. Interesting Museum which allows you to see the beautiful island also in a different light, and that is the power of its remote and recent past tied to minerals. Very nice. There is an audio guide along the path of the train. Personally, although I see that experience already is welcome as it is, I think it would be stunning with some interactive aspects of the Museum and/or teacher or a geologist or an expert that complements or replaces the audioguide often covered by noise.

  • A pleasant activity involving both children and adults. After an introduction to the minerals on their merger and other information about how you dig there starts at 10 minutes ' walk away from Rio Marina Museum in Via Magenta. Followed by a "teacher" that tells us how and what to look for, with hammer, we turn to this space in search of gold and other precious minerals 1000 fools that we will be taking home. The cost of the asset is not very low, children 10 € 7 € adults, perhaps no high wire, must say that this task remains alive and vivid in the imagination for a long time

  • We have been to Rio Marina mineral Park, with visit on the train at open-pit mining, and Museum. All this costs € 12 per person without charging the 1 year old daughter (who was in her arms on the train). While traveling in the train there is a recorded voice that explains everything, then you stopped to pick up some minerals. All I liked it although I expected a bit more, especially the equipment you see on tour are positioned as if they were on display, but still interesting!

  • Interesting and looked after the Museum with minerals and fossils in addition to reconstructions depicting life in mine:-) Pleasant excursion on the train with a full description of the environments that you cross. Nice also in the mining area for the answer. Particularly appreciated by children but not only!

  • The train ride is inteessante although it does not have a clear idea of the various open-cast mines. The time of collection of minerals is very entertaining though then one wonders what to do with ... The Museum from an idea of the tools used in this work so heavy and well worth a visit

  • A dramatic turn in old mines, with the possibility of picking up some memory and have fun with small hammers provided by staff. Great fun for kids!
