  • Il Santuario di Fonte Colombo, Franciscan origin, shows the history of the place. Saint Francis in this place he stayed long due to an eye disease and the visit should be made forgetting the watch overindulging at the peace of the place

  • Another beautiful sanctuary to visit is undoubtedly Fonte Colombo. It is located halfway between Rieti and Greccio, in the middle of a wonderful Woods and perched on a small hill called Rainiero. It is one of the four sacred reatine Valley Sanctuaries that bear witness to the way of St. Francis. The sanctuary is known not only for its beauty and spiritual peace but also to two important moments in the life of the Saint tied to this place: here in early 1223 wrote the definitive rule of his order and the end of 1225, a year before his death, Francis was operated in the eyes in an attempt to cure him with a serious illness that made him almost blind. The sanctuary consists of a square where the main church dedicated to St. Francis and in San Bernardino, built between 1300 and 1400, inside to see two beautiful sculptures of 1600 depicting in a crucifixion in the other, the confirmation of the rule. Next to the Church the graceful cloister and lower the Hermitage where the Saint underwent the operation. Outside there is the chapel of Mary Magdalene with its splendid Byzantine frescoes of 1400. Leaving the Church and going past a gate we go to sacred places and for a steep stairway leads to the sacred cave. See also the cave of Brother Leo and the Oratory of San Michele. I also recommend to take a nice walk from the square down to a beautiful water source, known as "source of doves", along a path that crosses a magnificent forest of oak trees and beautiful waterfalls. The mystical atmosphere and lush and wild nature of these places, give unforgettable impressions to visitors. I recommend it!

  • Shrine plunged into an almost untouched nature and full of peace. Ancient sites and the presence of the friars return to mind a serenity unknown to our times. Part of the Church, the cloister and the places where St. Francis wrote the final version of the rule. A curiosity: from a window near the Cross is visible the ossuary of the friars.

  • The 11 May 1974 I attended a holy mass very important for my life. In this magnificent sanctuary, me and my wife Juliana got married. After 42 years of Wonderful married life I thank Francis for the force that has given to our Union.
