  • The national monument to the Lira was inaugurated on 1° March of 2003 in piazza Cavour. The choice fell on the city of Rieti, because the capital is historically the value of Center of the peninsula. The work was carried out by fusing 200 Lire coins 2.2 million. The design of the monument was developed by the artist Daniela Fusco: it portrays the Italy towered in the Act of supporting a big coin by a penny. About drapes that encircle runs the inscription "Italy for the Lira".  On one side of the monument is a rivulet that symbolizes the Velino River: water is a symbol of the city's wealth of Rieti and its province.

  • It is unusual to see a monument dedicated to the lira. Besides, if you think about what was important to the history of Italy, we are astonished not to see great numbers!

  • It is the first time I happen to see a monument dedicated to the lira. Usually the monuments are for historical reasons and think that the pound now's story makes me feel old.
