  • Inside are preserved paintings of the ' 400. The plan of the Cathedral is a Latin cross with three naves, a transept and apse pillars. Fine art nineteenth-century ciborium relief and the chapel of Santa Barbara designed by Bernini. The Interior of the Cathedral has works of Vincenzo Manenti, Federico, Marco Antonio Aquini Fiorentino and others: these include the frescoes of Padilla at the apse. The crypt is composed of one space divided by 16 columns and capitals of different shapes. A column is made of a milestone coming from via Salaria and carries an inscription from the 4th century.

  • The Cathedral is really lovely and I highly recommend a visit. You can also switch to the crypt.

  • This wonder is situated in the historic centre of Rieti; the main façade facing with the porch and the belfry onto piazza Cesare Battisti and was restored in the Romanesque style in the first half of the twentieth century. The churchyard is covered by a porch added in 1458 and from here you can reach the three entrances of the Cathedral, the baptistery and the Bell Tower. The exterior is in Romanesque style, the Interior is in Baroque style, with a Latin cross plan and aisles. There are diGian Lorenzo Bernini, Lorenzo Ottoni, sculptures and paintings by Lorenzo Torresani, Andrea Sacchi, Francesco Romanelli and Vincenzo Manenti. Under Bishop Angelo Capranica the Cathedral was embellished in 1458 by building the porch which gathered Church, baptistery and the Bell Tower in a single architectural body. The Interior has been transformed to more shooting from the side chapels that have altered the original structure. Among the most important Santa Barbara, one of the most important and most lavishly decorated, the Santa Caterina, San Giuseppe and San Rocco. The baptistery, which constitutes a body in its own right and is adjacent to the Cathedral that is linked from the porch, houses the museo del tesoro. Finally, under the floor of the Cathedral there is the Romanesque crypt consists of one room, built between 1109 and 1157 and also known as the lower basilica. Anyway, a nice gem to behold.
