  • The Cathedral of Reggio Emilia, as well as the adjacent baptistery, not presented as a separate building, but is incorporated into the architectural context of the Bishop's Palace which overlooks the central piazza Prampolini. The façade is bizarrely split into two since the 16th-century makeover of the old Romanesque façade was never completed. At the top, the octagonal lantern which is the Bell Tower, stands the sixteenth-century sculpture of the Madonna and child. The Cathedral, Romanesque, has been the subject of numerous reconstructions and modifications and testimonials from various centuries coexist harmoniously within. Worth noting: the main altar contemporary design although comprising two sheets of marble worked in Roman times, the chapel with the monumental tomb of Bishop Rangone, the chapel of the Blessed Sacrament with the beautiful marble temple, the tomb of watchmaker, the singular Ettore Spalletti candelabra inspired by the crossing of the Red Sea, the crypt with the relics of Saints and Roman mosaics found during recent renovations. The Cathedral amazes not with special effects, not overflowing with gold or other trappings: its beauties are discovered and appreciated quietly, musing on time passing and composure entirely.

  • Clear that give 3 balls at a historic cathedral so may not make sense, but the assessment is related to similar monuments. Bare and small but well maintained, you can feel the history. In pocho time you visit ...
