  • A place of great beauty! Especially for fans of the early mosaic that adorns the walls above the Colonnade

  • San Vitale perhaps has finer mosaics, but Sant'Apollinare Nuovo definitely has the most. The church is like a Byzantine comic strip with New Testament scenes running all along the sides of the nave. I...  more »
  • It is absolutely spectacular and "breathtaking" when you enter for the first time. The height of the central corridor, Golden mosaics, the reflection of the Sun on the ground depends on the time of day, through their windows... It is a truly magical place.

  • If you've made it all the way to Ravenna, odds are you will be seeing this no matter what. It's nice that they have chairs set out where you can sit and view the full mosaics without having to strain your neck so much.
  • Fabulous! Some sumptuous mosaics. Wierdly the Baroque additions and frescoes rather spoil the effect.
  • Great artwork inside. Was half thinking of missing this but glad I didn't.
  • Outstanding frescoes.
  • Lots of mosaics describing Jesus and the Saints in various stages.
