  • The Basilica is hard to miss-it almost at the exit from the railway station square. Exterior unappealing. But the Interior is worthy of attention. Luxury painting.

  • The first paper sources we track back to 1118 but of the first Romanesque Gothic church we no longer track until 1604 when, in a bubble of the Archbishop of Genoa it is reported to the community the poor condition of the structure, asking for the urgent renovation work. The opera ends in 1628 but in 1679 are conducted new works to construct a new apse, which consequently leads to cancellation of the previous Romanesque-Gothic architecture, assuming the current eighteenth-century appearance. Additional and substantial changes take place between 1852 and 1856 with the makeover of the Interior and of the new neoclassical façade, designed by architect Olivieri. The construction of the monumental dome is completed in 1920 with a solemn ceremony of consecration. Inside is in the aisles, a number of altars dedicated to Saint Anthony, Saint Rita until more important: our Lady of Montallegro (especially important for the population of Rapallo, always devoted to her). Finally starting in 2000 we proceeded with the redevelopment of the area near the pedestrian area around the basilica, with landscaping the square on the right and the widening of pavement left exit.

  • To be the main church and a basilica, is fairly simple and small, almost could go unnoticed. But is cute, especially its Tower. Although not I entered, I suppose that it is very nice inside also.
