Once a flourishing ancient city, Ragusa was rebuilt after a devastating earthquake in 1693. It is now one of Sicily's most impressive cities. The town is split into two halves--Ragusa Ibla and Ragusa Superiore (Upper Town)--by the Valle dei Ponti ravine. Four bridges cross the ravine.
