  • We were here on a Sunday. The Fort can be reached by car (there is parking outside) but I saw a few people venture out on foot, personally I recommend getting into the car:) Before entering you must make your ticket at the bar (€ 4, very little). For visiting it takes half an hour, better to go in the morning or early afternoon to enjoy the spectacular views. In fact, in addition to the fortress well maintained and cared for, the best thing is the view that the location has over the Val d'Orcia! Great for taking panoramic pictures above (possibility to climb the highest Tower). Recommended visit!!

  • If by chance after a visit to the country, where among other things you eat well and cheaply, you decide to take a short walk to the fortress, perhaps to work off lunch, know that you will be asked to make a ticket just to watch the view from the lawn in front of the fortress. If you then decide to follow the marked trail in the country as "the stairs" (inaccessible and disconnected, not recommended) you'll read ominous signs that warn you that, once you reach the top, you'll have to buy the ticket for the mere fact of having walked that path ... The Fort is an impressive place that deserves all the ticket 4 euro, but what seems out of place is taxing the walk, not a visit. In Montalcino or in Sarteano, just to mention the other forts in the area, no one would dream of asking you a ticket for doing a walk from the square at the foot of the fortress ...

  • 5 Euros to get in. A few nice exhibits but what you really want to see are the views. Looking north you can see across the mountains to Tuscany and the Val-de-Elsa. Looking south you can see all the w...  more »

  • Maybe the best view over Toscana, great architecture and impressive historic importance.
  • Not a lot to see up here apart from a great view around the valley.
  • The view from this place is incredible!!!!! You will be looking down at airplanes!!!! It is a rugged fortress that will have you imagining what medieval life was like. The trip up to the top of the tower is well worth the many steps you will climb. The cost to enter the grounds is 2 euro each.
  • The Radicofani fortress stands at the top of a volcanic vent (formed from one million years) on the eastern slopes of monte Amiata (latest volcano which has 300,000 years ago). Nearly a thousand meters between the straw and the val d'Orcia, controlled the transit on the via Cassia and was resting place of the via Francigena. From the tower you can enjoy a beautiful view at 360°. The fortress is related the name of Ghino di Tacco, mentioned by Dante and Boccaccio.

  • Checked off suddenly when I covered the Val d'Orcia in the car, the fortress and its donjon strikes forcefully. Powerful symbol of strength surrounded by a unique environment. The town offers a distinct angles historical beauty.
