  • A few days ago we were in Savona and, since we fell in love with the Liguria and its hinterland-amazing-we felt the desire to return to Castelvecchio di Rocca Barbena, where we had been a couple of times. To get to this delightful medieval village along a curved road, but not tired and not bored because you are attracted by the landscape a little "wild". When you reach the town, you may park your car out of town and you are immersed in 360 degrees in the 11th century, when the village was built. From that moment everything speaks of 1000 years ago, magnificently preserved. It climbs lowercase streets where old stone houses proudly show their age. Interesting fortified castle, typical of countries, we always found it closed. If you look carefully, do not go unnoticed and coeval ovens old wash houses, jutting humps that "escape" from the perimeter of the houses around the village is a real delight. The feeling is that it is not sufficiently valued. Advice: wear comfortable shoes and plunge into the atmosphere of another era.

  • Get to Castelvecchio di Rocca Barbena means to follow a road of fifteen kilometres from the motorway exit of Albenga, a road (the main road 52) that the other beautiful medieval centre of Zuccarello, climbs over the rugged hills and mountains between Liguria and Piedmont. Castelvecchio, for some reason, are poorly understood, but it is beautiful. A very well preserved medieval centre, with its narrow and winding alleyways and stone houses that overlook the Valley of Neva. Has fewer than 150 inhabitants, a bar, a restaurant, a farm, shop, post office, playground and a square (in front of an old oratory) also used for shows. The Church of the assumption is in Baroque style, renovated in the 18th century; at the top stands – visible from every corner of the country-the castle that was of Clavesana and Del Carretto (closed when we went, but the impression is that it is almost always). There is a convenient parking at the junction for Balestrino. The thrill of transit in these stone alleys between the houses which are also of stone, is remarkable, perhaps thanks to the silence of the place.
