  • The former Citadel is historically and architecturally interesting, but mostly in a sad state. There is also no food, and the opening hours of the museums I remained a mystery.

  • The oldest suburb at the highest point of the island, picked by Benedictine monks, it was then populated to fend off invasions of Barbarossa is today a destination for many tourists. In Terra murata is accessed from the Romanesque door between the rooms of the former penitentiary and then a second door, half Homo (family nickname, which kept the keys), whose remains once. The houses along the way are built on tuff; on the left the aragonese Castle of d'avalos, abandoned upstream. A steep climb leads to the village, which was once a concentration of houses, with island architecture: arches and external stairs to neck of giraffe. I'm seeing the belvedere; the former orphanage, now a Museum of Graziella and venue for exhibitions, events and university halls; the Abbey of Saint Michael, patron saint of the island.
